I tried to use tv-out for the first time today and encountered a strange thing: after I connect the cable, the laptop automatically switches its display resolution from 1280x800 to 1024x768 and cannot be changed to 1280x800.

Does anyone know if I can use the 1280x800 resolution when I enable tv-out? I have the latest Intel video driver.

I am not sure how you connect your tv out, via vga? s video? anyways, I think depends on which mode you use, if you used mirror mode, than if your TV can only support upto 1024x768, then your computer will have to down grade to that resolution. Basically whatever you connect to the resolution on both will change to which ever one is the lowest.

I connected to my hdtv, which is 1080p, and I can only use the tv as 1440x900, as mirror mode both display need to be the same res. I THINK

Depends on your TV, you will not be able to push somethig past the native resolution of the monitor it is using (in this case your tv)

I mean you can, but the display will ot be crisp and it may look strange. For a perfect display you will have to go with your TV's native resolution.

    that has been my experience
