    100GB or 120GB?

    3 GB PC2-4200 DDR2 SDRAM 533MHz SODIMM Memory (2 DIMM)

    with

    100GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm Serial ATA (2.5") [add $119.00]

    or

    120GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm Serial ATA (2.5") [add $38.25]

    ?????
    would the additonal 20GB offset the 1800rpm?

    i would say go with the 100 gb 7200RPM andwould be quite worth it
    but note the heat out put along with the battery life decrease should be worth considing

    i got the 120 gig since i doubt i will noticed the extra 1800 rpm but i will noticed the short battery life.

    The battery life difference is marginal if any. If you need the extra space, then get the larger drive. 3GB of memory is probably overkill.

    I would go with 7200 PRM, this 1800 makes difference. HDD speed is the only priority for me.

    Look you CPU is fast, RAM is Fast one thing which slows everything down is HDD.

    7200 make a difference.

    I would definitely go for the 7200 rpm HDD. The hard-disk is the slowest part of a computer. You would surely want it to be as fast as possible. Unless you do serious video editing I don't see why you would need more then 100GB anyway.

    I have an hitachi 100GB 7200RPM drive, previously had an 80GB fuji 4200RPM drive.

    I have used my laptop on battery every day, for weeks now and i have not noticed any less run-time with the 7200RPM drive opposed to the 4200RPM one.

    What exactly is RPM? Is it the speed it loads information?

    rounds per minute
    so it rotates faster, so it reads faster
    you can then load programs and stuff faster

    Just my two cents,

    Regarding battery life,
    true the difference will me marginal with a 7200rpm, but if you add up all the marginal increases in power consumption like the faster hard drive, then the hotter atheros card, maybe non-integrated graphics, a slightly faster processor, they all add up to a meaningful decrease in battery life.

    FWIW, a 160Gb 5400rpm is just as fast as the 100Gb 7200rpm, but the 5400's speed decreases as you fill it up
