Website: IBM100 - Welcome to IBM100
An amazing set of achievements, from the company founded in New York City in 1911 and rapidly becoming one of the leading IT companies. From wiki: "Its employees have garnered five Nobel Prizes, four Turing Awards, nine National Medals of Technology, and five National Medals of Science." (see: IBM Research| Awards & Achievements ). The only person not mentioned in the video that I can think of is John Von Neumann who played one of the key roles in the design of the computer.
EDIT: erik kindly moved the appropriate posts from the other thread and sorted this out. Thanks!

IBM video gives me new appreciation for my new laptop. Makes me glad I didn't get a DELL or something ordinary.
I once was (for a couple of years) a COBOL programmer for Dept. of Agriculture using 360's.
The company motto could sure solve the world's problems if it were given priority over all the stupid mottos and memes people and cultures currently live by. -
I like their slogans:
- "we must study through listening, observing and thinking"
- "all of the problems of the world could be settled easily if men were only willing to THINK"
Btw, I showed it to my boss today and when they showed the trackpoint he was like "Yay, there are our Thinkpads!!!" -
Hasn't IBM lost the use of the ThinkPad name to Lenovo from the sale?
-
Company history - United States
Copyright and trademark information - United States -
IBM'er is a mindset and using ThinkPads I think we are all IBM'ers in some way -
This one's even better, key members talk about their very historically significant projects:

Great video, vinuneuro! I enjoyed watching it.
-
IBM don't even make laptop anymore, why should we care?
-
Reminds me why I wanted to become an electrical engineer.
-
Thanks, unreal25 and vinuneuro, for the videos.
(28:48) (Dr. Frederick Brooks) Thomas J. Watson used to go into the lab and he'd corner some young engineer and he'd say, "What do we sell?" The young man would say, "Our machines, sir." "No, no! We sell a service that satisfies."
Simply awesome.
I appreciated the "Apollo 13" story by Mr. Homer Ahr (14:33). I didn't know IBMers invented the bar code (11:36). -
Fantastic videos! Thanks for sharing.

I thought the SABRE system was the most amazing. So sophisticated it's adequate 40 years later in volume orders of magnitude greater. How often is something like that created and how many things like that are there?! Even more amazing considering it's in the IT sector.
-
+1
Yeah. Mr. and Mr. Smith. The SABRE system was way ahead of its time, and has managed to scale and survive so admirably! -
IBM is famous at research, like Bell Labs.
For many years, Big Blue files and earns the most US patents. -
"IBM is famous at research, like Bell Labs."
No... IBM is not famous at Bell labs. They had virtually no real-time capability.
Renee -
Uh yeah, Bell Labs used to be the best place for basic research. However, it seems like this is no longer the case for some time now. IBM had some great things, but Bell Labs were really top.
-
Bell Labs used DEC. The financial people may have used IBM.
Renee -
They forgot to mention one thing. IMO, still the BEST keyboard: Model M keyboard.
-
I said IBM is famous like bell labs not at bell labs. Im sure they are famous at bell labs too as they are in most developed countries especially within scientific and engineering circles but that wasnt what I said.
I am at a miss about the real time capability comment?
And IBM is quite famous also. They also have a few nobel laureates just like bell labs. in fact you will find both ibm and bell labs garnered the same number of them. -
I'm not surpised that both Bell and IBM are both Nobel Lareates many times over. IBM did it with basic research on computers and Bell labs did not do any research with IBM computers. They used DEC computers. One of the things they did was to invent Unix and C and I shant hold that against them.
"Im sure they are famous at bell labs too as they are in most developed countries especially within scientific and engineering circles but that wasnt what I said"
You may be sure all you want. IBM is famous for Basic research. Bell labs was a little bit more practical but not with IBM equipment.
