Guys, is it okay to get 1.5 GB ram (1.0 stick and 512MB stick?). Or should both sticks be the same memory size for best operation? I remember reading somewhere you should keep both sticks the same in pairs for advanced operation. Does this apply here?

Keeping them both the same size allows them to run in dual channel. This yields better performance, however, you will be hard pressed to see the difference between the performance of equal amounts of RAM (i.e. two 1GB sticks in dual channel versus one 2GB stick).
A higher amount of RAM, generally, is a better choice than a lower amount in dual channel. -
1.5 is better than 1.0 GB
the "advanced operation" for 2 sticks of the same size of ram is simply running dual channel. Dual channel's benefit isn't that great, so if you got the cash, you're better off with 1.5 running single channel then 1 GIG (2 512 sticks) running dual channel.
edit: and ****, i was beaten by a split second =) -

Didnt paladin post threads on how dual channel really made a difference ?

Question - I know on desktops, dual channel started as an Nvidia (as opposed to Via) offering.
On laptops, is it only true for Intel offerings or can AMD's benefit (slightly) from dual channel as well.
I.E. in an Intel system 2x512 is slightly faster than 1x1024. Same for AMD or no? (And does Turion or Turion X-2 make a difference?)
Ooops - forgot I was in the Lenovo forum, so maybe not the best place to ask about AMD.
Wearetheborg - I don't know about paladin, but either anandtech or tomshardware said it was only worth maybe 2-3% on a desktop system.
1.5 or 1.0 GB RAM?
