I have an Ideapad Y450 and like many things about it quite a lot.
Problem: It has a really annoying, loud startup sound that nets me a lot of dirty looks in libraries.
I am not stupid. I played with all the settings I could find. The regular option for turning off startup sound doesn't work because that's in windows and this happens before windows startup. It's a Lenovo thing; happens as the Lenovo logo and startup screen comes on.
The other really, really annoying thing about this is that it will go on even if I just put the computer into sleep mode. It's supposed to just start back up when you reopen, but sometime during its sleep it went into hibernation and now I can't restart without waking up the whole dorm room with that &*%# noise.
HELP!

Try dig around the power options in BIOS. There are a few sounds/beeps you can configure, including power on, power down, power state change etc.... They may not be named exactly like that, but you get the idea.
FYI, my system is a ThinkPad, which I believe should still translate well to an Ideapad. -
Others have posted this issue as well, and I believe there is an option to disable the Lenovo startup sound in the BIOS.
#*%@ startup sound!
