    Model name 2378DWU

It's listed at $1600, but I added 512 MB of Ram for $200 more. Do you think it's a good deal?

I'm not sure if that is really great price, find out what the sub model number is; it will be a 4 digit number followed 3 letters. With thaat I could give you a better idea.

I think at crucial.com you can buy 512MB for about $100.

Or, if you have an American Express card, go to http://www.ibm.com/shop/ibmdeals/3651

Check www.ibm.com/businesscenter/mastercard for whichever model you're looking at and compare prices.

Also, if you're a graphic designer, you might want to look at a Thinkpad with a Flexview display, which has much better vertical viewing angles than the standard display and is much less-washed out than other IBM screens I've seen.

Installing memory after purchasing the computer is very easy. As long as you have an extra slot open (you can ask when ordering), all you have to do is unscrew a cover underneath the laptop and slip the new RAM in. It takes all of 30 seconds to do. Crucial.com is a great site to purchase from; the memory is well-made, cheap, and shipped fast. It will come with directions, and the IBM manual will also tell you how to do it.

As for the computer, the price is not bad, but not all that special either ($100 less than IBM retail). I definitely recommend buying the RAM aftermarket and would suggest that you consider looking at a model with at least the 64MB Radeon 9600 card, especially given the graphics programs you plan on using simultaneously. Also, unless you really like the XGA monitor, I would suggest getting the SXGA+ (actually, with the 15" screen, if you get the 64MB video card, you will be getting the SXGA+ screen)

well, I got the 15" XGA monitor with 32 MB ATI Mobility RADEON 7500 graphics card. It was $650 more to get the 64MB video card and SXGA+. I did stick with the 256MB of memory and then went over to Crucial and bought a stick of 512 for $100. I think it's one of the best computers under $1800.

No!! It's not a great price! Get the 2378-FVU for 1800$. IBM Think Express Programm

    1.8GHZ
    256MB RAM
    14.1 SXGA (1400x1200) better resolution
    ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600 - 64 MB
and the rest is pretty much the same

Add another 512 from Crucial and you are ready to go!!

Personally, I think that IBM ThinkPads are way overpriced for what they are. Sure, they offer great quality but they are too expensive. Maby, there merge over to Lenovo will help make lower costs for the laptops.

Windows - The operating system that runs the world.

Toshiba - Quality, price, and features!

I think for the money, I'm getting a quality, reliable laptop. It is really a slick machine and know I won't have problems with a cheaply, built shell like some of the other manufactures. Goes perfect with my Graphic/Web Design business.
