I am planning on buying a used one. The seller doesnt have the media(os and drivers). How do I get these? Is there a recovery partition where I can create my own?

HP Support Site has all drivers, etc available for download . There should also be a recovery partition and a recover to new option if the machine you're looking at has the Windows 7 Pro software the machine shipped with . The US models came with 2 media disks as well, one for W7 and one for W8 .

I think one of the best things about buying a "Workstation" laptop from either Dell or HP or even Lenovo is:

Standard 3 year - next business day warranty.

For me this is huge, you can never know if a laptop will have a problem, no matter the manufactuere. To know that if my graphics card fails in the next 3 years, i can have someone here next day to replace it for free is just fantastic.

The best part is you dont even have to buy the warranty, it just comes with it!

so if you buy a used, or one on Ebay, it will have this warranty!

any other laptop model you will need to pay an extra 200-300 for this type of warranty.

    On a side note:

This is my first HP, and this is probably the best laptop I have ever had. Its super tough, simple, plain, with no fancy colors or buttons or dials. Its able to run every single game i throw at it, it can run 8 virtual machines of windows 7 at once with no slowdown. It can run 3 browsers with 30 tabs open in each one along with 10 other programs all running smoothly. Its just great and this is also my first 17 inch laptop. From now on i will only get 17 inch laptops. Nothing beats taking a computer out of a bag and it having EVERYTHING you could want and need right there, no need for bigger monitor or anything. Its just a desktop that fits in my backpack.

Personally unless you really do high end tasks, i wouldnt even upgade the CPU.

It is already very fast and I would rather have less heat then a CPU thats just a bit faster. This is my personal preference though.

I have a K3100, and i would love to have the K5100 but.... I could almost buy 2 of these laptops for that price.

    My current config is:
    HD+ screen
    32 gigs of ram
    4700mq cpu
    500gig evo ssd
    250gig samsung pro ssd
2tb samsung hard drive in DVD bay

Funny story. My co-worker got an Asus G751 notebook over the holiday, and decided to get a Belkin Thunderbolt dock with it so he could easily hook it up at work. The dock refused to activate the DisplayPort display we had hooked up through the daisy chained Thunderbolt port. After thirty minutes or so we remembered that my Zbook 17 also had a Thunderbolt port, so we tried the dock. Everything worked fine, including the display. Nice to know that the Thunderbolt port actually works.

Looks like HP has added configurations of the Zbook 17 G2 with the first mobile Maxwell Quadro, K2200M. This one is available from resellers for about $2000, and should be a good option for those who prefer or need Nvidia over the cheaper AMD Firepro option. Hopefully with Maxwell optimizations this will be close to the performance of the K3100M.

Given how much it is delayed hopefully this is actually a GM204 similar to the Geforce 965M. Its a shame they don't have this on the Zbook 15. It would be a very significant upgrade to the existing K2100M from what the specs look like.

    Hello Everybody!!!

I'm glad to have found this forum of ZBook owners and am looking forward to your brilliant minds to assist me as I'm about to become the new proud owner of a ZBook 17. This machine is being bestowed upon me as a replacement unit for the Envy 15 maxed out, tricked out with the IPS Radiance display I had purchased in 2012 that died a year and a half into ownership which was greatly traumatizing to me since I loved my little machine. And it was freaking cool!! It took HP 4 months to replace the first one leaving me without a pc the whole time and since they screwed up in such a huge way somehow the escalations manager managed to get me the ZBook 17.
They had replaced it with a new Envy 15 Quad Special Edition with about the worst display I've ever seen, a slower HD that overheats, it has horrible flex on the keyboard etc etc etc. I finally got fed up with it and emailed them with my dissatisfaction for the inferior product and their horrific customer care and the response was this new unit to be delivered Tuesday.

So, after reading a bit on this board and elsewhere, I have some questions and will be looking for some guidance along the way to have my new machine set up to my liking.
    The unit:

Questions: Firstly, I'm not a huge gamer just like to play without my pc wanting to faint and I'd like it to be fast enough to power through easily. I also use it for work and stream through it as well.

Secondly, I owned a Dell XPS 17 gaming pc so needless to say I'm not afraid to open it up and do minor surgery. God knows I have done that enough. That piece of crap was nothing but trouble. LOL

    1. I'd like to hook up the HP Envy 24" IPS Monitor but see there is no HDMI, does this mean I cannot use this particular monitor or do I need to have some kind of hickymajigger part to make it work? (like the technical term?)

    2. I'd like to put an SSD Drive at least 500GB, so do I wait for Crucial to come out with the MX200's or do I get something now. Also I'll keep the HD it comes with as well, I have a 1TB external WD backup as well.

    3. Can I put one 8gig RAM into the slot to have 24gigs or do I need to add 2 at a time so I go from 16 to 32? I already have one crucial 8 gig and was thinking to just pop it in?

    4. Shall I upgrade right away the wifi card from the 6235 to the 7260 or does it really make a difference? They're cheap so I can do that right away.

    5. Any other suggestions will be most welcome and as I get to do these upgrades I would appreciate some hand holding without too much technical chatter cuz I am no techy!! Just a simple girl who is willing to try almost anything once. Laffs!!!

I guess I should also ask how you all like your machines? The good, the bad and the in between?

Looking forward to chatting with you all!
Thanks for suggestions, help and a few laffs too.

Welcome to the club, Portlandlia. Thats a very nice Zbook 17 model that you have. I am somewhat surprised that they didn't offer you an Omen 15 instead, given how similar it is to the old Envy 15.

    Anyways, to answer your questions:

    1. You need a Displayport to HDMI adapter or cable. They do exist with audio pass through, so you should be able to use the built in speakers in that LCD if you want to.

    2. You can either get a mSATA SSD, or a second 2.5 inch SSD, however if you get the latter, you would either need to purchase a second HDD caddy or get creative with some tape.

    3. You can use the extra 8GB ram as long as it is DDR3L, 1.35v. Even 1333mhz ram works, but it must be the lower voltage type.

    4. The 7260AC would be useful if you have an AC router, but otherwise the 6235 works fine with both 2.5Ghz and 5Ghz N routers.

    5. If you have a desk somewhere you might consider getting a docking station. It elevates the laptop in the back so it breathes better under heavy load, and also gets you a spare power supply (for the dock) and port replication which can be handy. I have seen them used on Amazon or Ebay for around $100. Make sure to get a 230W one, the 90W models are for Probooks.

To add, welcome . The Zbook you're getting is almost identical to mine and models we procured. To answer a few more questions :
For Gaming, the CPU and K3100M card will handle games as a desktop with a mid-range gaming card . I think I have a previous post in this forum with the Cinebench R15 numbers ( excellent.. I think 82 FPS) and the results from the Unginue Heaven at 1080P ( I think it was mid-hit 600s) ..
As far as surgery , the bottom door to the disk drive slots, MSATA slot , and 2 of the memory slots is very accessible . I have added a 480 G SSD ..and didn't need to use the adapter , as the fit was pretty tight . I wouldn't advise this is you're very mobile, but if the device is mostly stationary , it works :) . The reminder about low voltage memory should be heeded, and I think the keyboard needs to be removed if one is going to populate all 4 slots . The maintenance manual is downloadable on the support site , and is pretty good , including warnings for those operations that 'should be performed by qualification' .
I and my clients have no complaints after 8 months of pretty heavy usage ( can't say exactly what, but .. ) . They appear to be built like tanks, and the hardware/software is giving no issues (caused by the machine.. humans, that's always another story) . Good Luck !!

    Thanks Guys!!!

I appreciate the quick responses and info. I'll get to the manual and have a read first before I get out my surgical gloves and tools. :)

Currently my new monster is sitting at the fedex warehouse and they won't allow me to pick it up till tomorrow since that is it's delivery date. So I wait in anticipation. (not fond of fedex as a shipper I might add, as they don't keep a package moving along. I've never seen a package sit in a location for 2 days and be held at a local facility without being allowed to be picked up)

So, I wait for my delivery!!

I can pop the memory in right away as it's the right one. Anyone know how long before crucial releases the 200mx ssd's? I may wait but if I get impatient I'll impulse buy I'm sure. Hehe. I don't really have much of an opinion per say about brands and basically would look to crucial or samsung. Any hard core opinions about which one over the other?

    Anyway, thanks again!!

I prefer Crucial over Samsung, but either should work fine. The big difference with the MX200 seems to be the write endurance. If you want an SSD that can do up over 300TB of writes without dying then you should probably hold out for the MX200. Just keep in mind that you have to get the mSATA variant.

I have had a 240GB M500 mSATA and 480GB M500 2.5 inch in my Zbook for the last six months and its worked fine.

I've had 2 840 pros in for over a year. I and other people write about 10gb a day. No performance hit at all.

I had a crucial hard drive in another laptop too, but it failed after 1.5 years of heavy usage.

    HI Guys!

Well, it arrived safe and sound.I think it's in good shape all the way round but did notice the power cord wiggles a bit but it's secure and doesn't pull out unless I tug on it.
I put in 8g crucial memory stick right away so have 24g. I ordered a M550 256g mSATA that arrives tomorrow. It looks fairly simple to exchange for the 32g. I'm curious though about doing it.

    I think I read I need to:
    1. Change the BIOS setting to AHCI from ISRT
    2. Take out the HDD and 32g install the 256 mSATA
3 Boot with the win7 disc and install it with drivers.
4 put the HDD back in

Remember I'm no techy so keep it simple please.....

I'm hoping this is fairly easy. Do I need to wipe everything from the HDD or can I leave it alone? I made the mistake of installing files already as I hadn't made my mind up I was going to get the mSATA right away, then on impulse late last night ordered it. LOL
Anything I need to know about the fresh install?

Thanks in advance. Happy weekend all!

The procedure you listed should work fine. You might want to go into the Intel Raid Utility (Ctrl-I at boot, iirc) and remove and raid volumes if there are any.

The power cord wiggling thing is normal on these models, as it has been for the past generation elitebooks as well. I think the jack is designed to move slightly, so bumps to the power plug or inadvertant disconnects are less likely to damage the jack. If it does end up not charging, just email HP and they will send a tech out to disassemble the laptop and replace the jack module. Luckily it is seperate from the mainboard and is about a $30 spare part so if it happen to break out of warranty its not too expensive to repair.

FYI, crucial DOES have a 512GB version of the M550 mSATA, and I already see the 2.5 inch version of the MX200 showing up at online retailers. My guess is in just a few weeks the mSATA MX200 will be available. I think the write endurance is much greater on these new drives, should be something like 150TB (!) for the 500GB model. Well worth the wait if you can still cancel that order for the M550.

Doesn't it figure I would order it and then the new ones are showing up. I can send it back easy enough when it arrives tomorrow. I think I'll wait and get the mx200., Didn't I say in my first post I would likely impulse buy!!! :)

I have to say, so far I am pretty impressed with this machine!
I'm glad to know the power cord is not an issue.

I dont really know about how the 32gig -> 250gig ssd process works but if it was me id probably just reformat and install windows on the 256 alone with no other drives. Then i would attach the large capacity drive.

Be careful to avoid installing any windows with two drives inserted or you may end up with a problem where if you remove one of the drives your pc wont boot.

If this happens to you try this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMIeJIUfiA0 as i ran into the issue before lol...

I also like to have bootable windows installed on a 2nd drive separately this way if my ssd ever dies all i have to do is switch my boot order and i am good to go.

I am glad to hear you like the computer, its definitely a good model.

I got a Clevo before this but i couldn't stand the fact that even though it was super fast, its body, build, and everything about it seemed so crappy. I now appreciate more the amount of work that goes into actually designing the outer body of a computer vs just the parts it has inside.

also to all Zbook / Pro book owners you may just want to be aware of this:
    https://www.youtube.com/edit?o=U&video_id=Ta0MIznyj3A
Its not really an issue, but just something to know if working with electronics / possibly sensitive devices.

    I second this.

The 32GB is probably a cache disk in a RAID config anyway.

However, if you just want to move the system as configured to the SSD:
    - open Intel RST utility and disable acceleration for the mechanical HDD;
    - reboot to Win, then shut down;
    - replace old with new SSD;
    - boot on a Macrium Reflect Free USB;
    - make backup copy of HDD OS partition;
    - restore partition on new SSD;
[or, instead of the previous 2 steps, write the partition directly to the SSD, without a backup copy]
    - shut down;
    - remove HDD or change bios config to boot first from SSD;
    - enjoy.

    Just a quick addition:

If you dont want to use Macrium reflect USB, you can always use Hirens disk - boot into mini windows xp and use any of the tools there, i generally use the Seagate disk wizard.

As long as you disable the 32gig flash as "landsome" says above, all you have to do is just copy (disk to disk) and you are good to go.

In terms of backup copy, i usually skip this since the (disk -> disk) just copies the first disk. So even if the process failed, the first disk would be in the same state as it was before the copy.

    I currently have 3x 850Pro sata 512gb and a 1x 840Pro Msata
currently the 3x850 is in raid 0 with win8 and the 840pro is stand alone with OSX. ;-)

currently using OSX to make a full clone of the win8 so that I can clone it back incase something happens when I am in field. and the OSX is more for finalCut pro and some photoshop filters that only run in OSX. other than that, my main OS is still win8.

For anyone that has a ZBook 17 G2 and has gone under the access panel, is the M.2 slot the same 2260 size that the ZBook 15 G2 has?

HP is replacing my Envy 17 3200 CTO for a battery issue that happened while it was in a previous service visit and they can no longer find the battery for it.

I've found that my recently-replaced M4 mSATA drive that was replaced with a MX200 drive won't fit in there, so I'm trying to find a M.2 PCI-E drive that fits in there. The 15 G2 has the 2260 slot and as there's multiple 2280 solutions out there, there's only one 2260 solution that is M.2 PCI-E. Not sure if HP went with a 2260 slot on the 17 G or not, and my laptop is on the way out to me.

EDIT: May have answered my own question:
    http://h20195.www2.hp.com/V2/GetPDF.aspx/4AA5-4884ENW.pdf

So, it looks like the ZBook 17 G2's M.2 slot should support a 2260 M.2 SATA drive as well as a M.2 PCI-E drive.

Just got a ZBook 17 (G1) i7-4800MQ, Quadro K4100M, 256GB SED SSD + 750GB HDD - I've added another HP 2x8GB modules identical to what came with the unit, and the BB09 extended life battery . I ordered (but yet to receive) a Crucial M550 126GB mSATA, as this was the size mentioned in the service and maintenance manual - I see people talking about larger drives and I'm wondering how they've got on with these... ideally I'd move to a 256GB mSATA for OS, the encrypted SSD for data, and 750GB HDD for non-secure items.

I've also had a few quirks - keyboard not responding fairly frequently, also the track pad not responding, and a system error stating the fan is not working correctly. Regarding the keyboard / track pad, I don't know if there are updated drivers or updating the BIOS might remove these problems. I've taken the service panel off to watch the system fan and seems to be working fine - off a lot of the time, but kicking in when I do anything intensive. Slightly annoying when we've paid so much for these mobile workstations...

I have almost the identical configuration. I have the K5100m.

Update the BIOS and install the latest synaptics drivers.

I've updated BIOS to 1.30, and downloaded the latest drivers from the HP support website. Can I check what versions your running - in particular for the GPU?

A Crucial MX200 M.2 SATA drive did not work in my ZBook 17 G2, so it looks like the above statement doesn't apply, at least for my ZBook 17 G2.

According to the HP whitepaper I listed in an earlier post, they claim that it will auto switch between SATA and PCI-E drives when connected to the M.2 slot. This wasn't the case for the MX200 SATA 2260 drive I connected to my ZBook 17 G2.

Looking at the space for the M.2 drive, HP could have moved the mounting screw socket to accommodate a 2280 drive. There's enough space in the bay to make that happen and we could have been using the 2280 drive options between Samsung, Micron and now Kingston. HP could have used them as well.

For me the latest touchpad driver made the touchpad stop working. Also the latest hotkey driver made the monitor brightness keys stop working.

I rolled back the touchpad driver and I have been too lazy to remove the hotkey driver so have just been manually adjusting brightness.

Ross - I am sorry you are having these issues. The only problem i have had was the computer randomly freezing once every 1-2 weeks, however this just went away and hasnt happened in 6+ months.

I would make sure all drivers / everything is up to date, maybe open up the PC and verify the cables are not loose. If you keep having these issues i would definitely contact HP warranty. You didnt spend this much money on an amazing laptop to have such problems. :/

Has anyone looked at using G2 parts to use in the G1?
From all the pictures I have looked at it looks like all the connections are identical and use the same chipset.

Btw I had a look at the specs and the G1 is mSATA, the G2 is M2 SATA/PCI.

    edit: I have put a 4910mq in my G1 so CPU's work.
edit2: CPU doesn't seem to throttle back automatically though.

Does anybody know what type of card slots are in the zbook g1? mSata, m.2, miniPCI, etc. And is the video card upgradable?

    Thanks in advance.

Yes to the graphics card, I have upgraded from a K2100m to a 860M but you most likely need a modified .inf file.
also I answered your other question just 2 posts before yours...

New zbook 17, dreamcolor, k5100m, 32gb ram, 256 m2, optical drive delete, 1tb data drive. The keyboard is nice, but the touchpad is so small and the buttons feel like they've been teleported from 1999.
It's huge and heavy (even with only a m2 and one drive). The bottom access panel and the cover over the optical bay both rattle.
I'm not at all impressed with the display. Yes, it's got crap tons of color, but much of it is in what's supposed to be pure grey or white! My white or grey solid background has pink or orange or blue or green, depending on the region of the screen at which you're looking. It's got a pinky-orange-ish left edge, the center is neutral (or green depending on the color space), pink lower right that transitions to a rather bright blue in the bottom right corner. There's a hint of back light bleed along the top and bottom (worse on the bottom). Any and all of the off-the-shelf profiles have some black crush, and the depth of the blacks on this panel is not impressive. This is all kind of subtle, yet immensely annoying for $5100.
The next business day service is in reality "next business day, unless it's a bother to hp". Called the vip phone line last Thursday, and was told a service tech would call me the next day. So, here it is Monday. Made another call and was told I'd get a call Tuesday. Well, it's Tuesday night...
It seems like the hp mobile display software is a complete joke. The color space options are labelled by number, instead of by name, and there is only one user space. There is no way to tweak anything besides target temperature and screen brightness. No gamma, no chroma, etc.
The owner experience hasn't been impressive, considering the price.
Is the Dell any better, or just more of the same, just with a different logo?

It seems that you got an uncalibrated display - the non named spaces is the give-away. Things would get better, but not by much. The separate backlight elements are positioned in a way that prevents even color mixing/distribution, which is obvious on grey and white backgrounds. I think DELL dropped the wide-gamut options, first on 15" and with the latest iteration, on the 17" as well. This is as far as color on the go goes, there's no one else who can deliver such wide gamut and IPS as of now.

I was told it's the polarizer just being applied in an uneven way. I may get a much better one next time, if I go back to Dreamcolor. I calibrated, but making the center neutral only emphasized the pink patches. Are the 15" IGZO displays any good? Maybe chasing the color dragon is wrong headed, and I should go for resolution. I'm just super pissed that dell and hp don't have stronger graphics cards in the 15" workstation lappies--they're gigantic, and they really have no excuse.
I'm leery of MSI or Eurocom screens, quality, return policy, service and such, but damn, they at least throw some beefy video cards in their thick, fugly dinosaur 15" lappies (and they have Xeon procs available in a few 15" models).
    Ugh.
Maybe I should focus on finding the best pen display for texturing and 3d sculpting, and then what workstation laptop is best to support it.

So... I upgraded to windows 10.

I did the upgrade first, seemed ok. Then i did a clean install + Bios update.

Being me.. i managed to update by bios right after the Windows 10 install. since i updated to newest bios my laptop keeps saying hard drive not found, "boot device not found 3f0" i press F9, select to boot from my hard drive and it boots fine. I spent like 3 hours messing with settings anything to get it to boot normally but everything failed.

I downloaded the older Dec-release bios and now at least its booting without having to press F9.

... .So windows 10... computer doesn't sleep. If it goes to sleep i get a BSOD and it reboots after trying to wake. This is QUITE annoying.

If anyone knows how to resolve the no sleep issue!! please helpp!!

Edit: I have found a temporary work around. Disable hybrid graphics in BIOS. The laptop will now return from sleep with no issues.

Hibernate seems to be more stable (shutdown -h) though the Intel driver crashed on startup it still managed to recover itself unlike the crash you get from sleep

I will hook up an external display and disable Intel to see if that makes a difference.

it works so it is likely the Intel driver crashing, I also found the my DP > HDMI doesnt work for some strange reason but I have the same problem in Windows 7
I have also tested wireless display and that works perfectly, luckly since this is what I use to watch videos on my TV.

Mine wont shut down. No matter what I do, either pressing the power button, or going through the start menu, it logs out shows the "Shutting down" screen and then it shows the sleep screen. The only way is to reboot and once it tries to boot up again to turn it off.

Could be misaligned polarizer as well, but I doubt it to be honest. The different tinting around the edges is pretty famous issue, for some it's worse than others. It's best to request a display swap with factory calibrated one and go from there. Factory calibrated + user calibration usually improves things. Might not be enough for you, but you should at least give it a try.

If 15" is what you'll rather have there are a few panels that are quite good. I don't know if you have looked into the Clevo P750ZM's topic, but I would suggest to do so. It might be the laptop for you.

    Z Book 17 and Support of Hewlett-Packard

On September 30, 2014 I purchased the equipment (see below) based on the current documentation of HP at that time to drive 5 displays (including laptop display). The consultation about my purchase was given by company 1LS (Moscow).

    - Laptop C3E93ES ZBook 17 Core i7-4900MQ 2.8GHz,17.3" FHD Dream Color LED AG Cam,16GB DDR3L(2),256GB SSD,750GB 7.2krpm,DVDRW,NV K4100M 4GB,WiFi,BT,8CLL,FPR,3.47kg,3y,Win7Pro(64)+Win8Pro(64):

    - HP 2012 230W Advanced Docking Station, A7E38AA:

    - Displays and stands for them.

Putting into operation of the equipment was in the end of November 2014. As a result, configuration of 5 displays (including laptop display) was non-functional. To be calm or quite the opposite the application to support of HP was sent by me (4742178083 on December 4, 2014) I received the link from support team indicated the document HP which was one of the documents during the choice and purchase of equipment (see below)

    http://h20195.www2.hp.com/v2/GetPDF.aspx/c04111344

The documentation is updated periodically, but I have a version of my purchased equipment. To exclude questions I would like to show you the answers of support team of HP given me by e mail. See below.

    4 Feb 2015 09:44:23 +0000 от HPSupport_Global

    Dear .......,

According to the documentation, only 5 independent displays can be connected, they include indoor display ZB17.

You can view this information in the specification ZB17 on page 7, below find the link with the characteristics:

    http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/c04111344.pdf
    **********************************************************************
    DisplayPort Feature
    1. Multi-stream Transport (MST): Multi-stream Transport is a DP 1.2 feature that allows daisy chaining of DP 1.2 monitors (requires built in support of DP 1.2 MST in monitor), or the use of DP 1.2 hubs with MST to achieve 4 active displays without a docking station.

    2. Optimal configurations for enabling the maximum number of displays (up to five independent displays when using an HP Advanced Docking station (sold separately) with hybrid graphics enabled):
    o With Port Replicator:
§ Dock DP + Dock DVI + Internal Display + Thunderbolt DP port (enabling VGA will drop one digital display)
    o With Advanced Port Replicator:
§ Dock DP1 + Dock DP2 + Internal Display + Thunderbolt DP port (enabling VGA will drop one digital display)
    ***********************************************************************
Be kindly to say number of your application 4743376099. We will do everything possible to help you and solve the problem.

    Best regards

    Technical support team HP

Further, the practical actions with the equipment, non-availability of modes control panel Nvidia Optimus and BIOS switch between Hybrid graphics deduced to assumptions about the laptop display only.

Simultaneously with practical actions the next application with the same question about the inoperable configuration of five displays (4743376099) was sent to support HP.

In response to this request I received questions about the correctness of the connection from support team HP , the magazine IDR (HP Image Diagnostic Tool Program) and programs supposedly correcting the fault (totally a lot of messages) were sent to me many times.

As a result, my suggestion did not find even a hint of confirmation from 1LS and 2LS support teams HP.

In the process of a long time correspondence, on 14.04.2015 the following letter from Support HP 1LS 2LS was received :

    14 Apr 2015 11:59:30 +0000 от HPSupport_Global

    Dear ......,

According to the recommendations of the engineer of the second level, under the continued work on your question, it is necessary to replace motherboard.

Here is a letter from the engineer of the second level:

    «Hello,
If you agree and mention the BIOS was updated and still same issue still you suspect BIOS?
why is the MB replacement for this customer not processed??
It is a single unit issue.
If MB replacement does not resolve we would elevate this case to 3LS, because without complete troubleshooting we cannot approach 3LS.

    Regards,
    Deepa»

We will do everything possible to help you and solve the problem

    Best regards
    PSG Mentor HP PPS Commercial

The letter put me in the final impasse. To show some opposition from my part on April 16, 2015 I wrote the claim to HP asking about replacement of the laptop . Reply to the complaint was received almost two months after my last reminder. Resume of the response to the claim dated June 10, 2015 was about the necessity to replace the motherboard.

Realizing that further opposition to HP support was hopeless, I had to agree with the replacement of the motherboard. This decision was based on my thought that the support team must know everything in principle :)

All further correspondence was continued with subdivided claims so far and again I got dozens of messages. Replacement of the motherboard was made on June 23 ,2015. And it was double one. It did not solve the problem of operation 5 displays, as well as new board could not register computer data at the same day. So I had to make reverse replacement and use previous board instead of new one.. All above mentioned is confirmed by Act dated 23 June 2015.

An extract of Act signed by me, representative of service center HP and representative of Seller service center is below:

It was diagnosed the following: laptop C3E93ES ZBook 17 does not work properly as declared by manufacturer, specifically simultaneous work of five displays ( including laptop display) according to, QuickSpecs Technical Specifications HP ZBook 17 Mobile Workstation Overview c04111344 - DA- 14723 Worldwide - Version 12 - June 18, 2014, Page 7, Features, DisplayPort Feature is not possible.

Recommendation regarding trouble-shooting: warranty replacement of laptop motherboard (System Board ID 190A, System Board CT ..........................., KBC Version 94.55).

After replacement of motherboard, when all my practical suggestions were confirmed for me, again I started to monitor Internet space (end of June 2015.) and found the document "Technical White Paper Multiple displays on HP ZBook Mobile Workstations" (4AA5-2657ENW [1 ] .pdf, March 2015), which later support 3LS refers to. I could argue that the document was still missing for free access in the end of May despite the fact that is dated March 2015. But it is not so important.

The important thing for me is that everything fell into place and I felt myself as Loh, who cheated Hewlett-Packard Company together with its support. Not informing support team HP about this document I started waiting for further course of events.

At the same time, support 1LS and 2LS was not yet aware of the document, this is confirmed by the fact of the replacement of the motherboard. While I am admitting, they played their game during our communication, thereby giving time for the appearance of the official documents.

After receiving the result of the replacement of motherboard or rather its no-show, support team HP carried out some actions or an imitation of them regarding possible replacement of the laptop. With simultaneous receiving of the next resolution on that action from support of level 3LS.

As a result, on August 7, 2015 the response was received from claims department:

I spoke to L3, the final decision on the issue: the notebook is working properly as it was designed. Reply L3 is below:

As we discussed – and as I relayed to Deepa – the notebook is working as designed. As we document in this white paper (see page 2), ZBooks with integrated DreamColor panels will only drive four (4) displays. Importantly, I pulled configuration information for the customer’s system (see below), and it clearly details that the customer is using a DreamColor display (highlighted yellow). As such, the customer will not be able to drive five displays with this notebook.

SOLUTION:If the customer wishes to drive five displays, then the customer’s only recourse is to return their existing system and get a ZBook that doesn’t include a DreamColor or QHD panel.John”

    Double of link: http://h20195.www2.hp.com/V2/GetPDF.aspx/4AA5-2657ENW

This information was not available for support 1LS and 2LS at least until March 2015, and especially for users as you can see from above mentioned. And on the basis of this information as you can see HP does not plan to replace my notebook anymore despite their direct involvement in this situation

All this is about my situation and support from Hewlett-Packard which knew about the reason of "the fault" after more than 8 months trying to find it all the time. Or maybe it was a double game from its side on my account.

Considering that all the information included in the documents HP about functional limitations of HP laptops complete with DreamColor display starts to appear long time after my purchase and apply to support HP. I think this is not the end of story.

In the meantime based on the read you can make conclusion yourself.

Hi guys - I'm purchasing a used Zbook 17 off ebay, but the seller doesn't have any documents for purchase, so I'm worried that I'll the warranty (onsite NBD until 2018). What's your experience on buying used laptops. It's from another country as well (seller is in the UK and I'm in Bulgaria)

Ah nevermind. I bit the bullet and I'm now waiting for the machine to arrive. I will need to purchase a genuine power adapter as it comes with a 120w one. Probably the 200w or 230w slim ones are the best. It's F0V44EA 4700mq 16 gb ram, 256 gb Samsung ssd and 750 gb sshd. K3100m and normal wva display. It was about 1100usd (735gbp) which is a good price for EU. I hope it all goes well. As for the warranty - I really hope there's a way to transfer it. I checked with HP support and they gave me some email for the warranty transfer. The warranty check says it's valid until April 2018.

Does anyone have any experience with replacing the nVIDIA Quadro GPU with a GTX 980M? Seen a few people running them in Zbook 17 G2s. Its a very similar card to the K5100M.
Curious to know if the different sub vendors BIOS versions matter at all? My experience from the 8770w says it will work since the old Elitebooks were very tolerant of custom GPUs.

And since the HP system BIOS contains a part of the vBIOS...
