ive had a problem with a my book premium 500GB.

It started with delayed write error when transferring files, and the drive would vanish and freeze vista.

tried on another notrebook with winxp, same thing.

Bought a new drive, and after 6-7 hours managed to transfer all files. Took so long since delayed write error happened 1 of 3 times.

After that the drive wasnt recognized in explorer or disk management, but in device manager.

Used latest killdisk, and did a quick "kill" (8 hours) Not recognized, but did see it in partitionmagic as unallocated space. created a new partition and formated it.

Now its recognized in explorer, but not in "safely remove hardware"

Did a test in hd tune, see screenshot. Would i be right sending this disk in as rma

I would say so. Maybe a manufacturing defect? Is it still under warranty?

its 8 months old, the problem started when 90% of the disk was used, now its empty.

All im worried about is that they wont consider it damaged since its now recognized.

All in all it took maybe 3 days to come this far.

its been in the same place.

I did get "this disk needs formating" first. Not a good sign since ive had that before on another drive. I unplugged the firewire, tested with usb and it worked. Didnt use it until new drive arrived to backup.

Since then its not recognized in safely remove hardware on any machine.

    --edit

ran hd tune again, and it freezes at same spot (60 min in) last time. Exprorer and the program not responding, unplug the drive and its ok.

So its not bad blocks, the drive just is unresponsiv after that time.
