i have a toshiba satellie computer i bought in january..it is running on windows vista & it was working fine until yesterday. it as for a windows upgrade as it normally does so i did the upgrade & it shut down. when it started to load back up it went to a black screen with a small blue box in it saying "password" it was almost like it was in safe mode because it hadnt loaded to windows yet. i called the toshiba company & they said it could be a BIOS problem & my best bet was to send it in..i was just wondering if there is maybe a quick fix?

That is pretty strange, are you sure that it is not a virus of somekind. I have never been prompted to enter a password after installing updates, other than the one I use to login.
I dont think it is a Bios problem, but you can try starting your system up in safemode to run system restore. Press F8 or F10 after the BIOS loads, in order to select to boot into safe mode.

I hope you can log back into windows soon,

    K-TRON

If by magic your laptop got passworded, you should open it and flash the CMOS. It may sound complicated but it is easy to do. I don't know your laptop but the procedure is the same for any laptop.
0- check if your laptop is still under warranty. If not carry on reading.
1- remove the power cord and the battery
2- look for a small battery inside your laptop. the diameter of this batery is about 1 to 2 cm. remove it for about 30 seconds and then put it back to place.
Usually the batery is located in the same compartment as the RAM or the Wireless. Sometimes it is hidden by the battery such is the case for some Dell laptops. If you're really unlucky then the only way to access to it is to dismantal the laptop completely to see it, such is the case for the gateway ml3108.
3- turn on the computer, acces the bios an reset the time and date.
