    Hi all, someone gave me a compaq evo n600c with the hard drive removed.....it originally had windows 2000....I can buy from a friend a hard drive that came out of a working evo n600c that had windows pro on it will this work in my laptop and will windows be on the drive when I power it up .......I am new at all this and asking questions to try and learn....thanks

    Yes, that would work. Or you could get a new drive and install whatever you want on it.

    I have 3 windows xp pro discs brand new never opened but I have no COA how can I get them to work

    you may be able to buy a COA from microsoft

    When you install an operating system to a harddrive somehow Windows reads the motherboard specs and makes it so you cannot use the harddrive on another system. However if you have two identical laptops you can swap harddrives between the two and you can load files off of another harddrive. This is because both motherboards are the same.
    It might not be the motherboard, that is an assumption on my part, it may be the IDE controller.
    But nonetheless if you have two n600c's you can swap harddrives between the two and boot from the other guys harddrive.

    it should work, the computer will boot into whatever OS present on the HDD. I have done that once, a HDD from a vostro 1400 which I pluged into my friends fujutsu tablet, and it booted up no problem

    yuh it might mess up your WGA when u try to update it happened to me once after a cpu upgrade had to call microsoft
