hey guys i was just wondering what HD benchmarks i should look for that will improve game load times and fps, yes thats right an ssd can improve fps due to the seek time for example AnandTech - Intel X25-M SSD: Intel Delivers One of the World's Fastest Drives
reason why i ask is im in the market for an ssd being that i just purchased an m11x r3. i was looking at the vertex 3, it looks impressive then i saw the reviews enough said lol. than i was looking at intel, best reliability to date for an ssd and good preformance. hope you guys can help me make up my mind

A benchmark is just a synthetic test to help measure performance. They do not improve load times or do anything at all in terms of performance.

I guess maybe you mean what benchmarks are a good sign to display game loading performance??

In any case there are none, every game is different and some get virtually no performance gains from a SSD, while others like WoW load quite a bit faster & better.

The only "true" benchmark for how a SSD effects a game would be people that own a SSD testing that game.

Also do not get your hopes up about FPS increase from a SSD its not a normal circumstance.

yea the average is around a 4% increase of the average of all games i found tested with and without an ssd so no it's not a big improvment but it is something atleast. have you had any experience with any ssd brands?

    Yes I have a 160GB G2 Intel and a 120GB Crucial C300

Some games load a bit faster but not by much and if its multiplayer in most cases you have to wait for everybody to load before you can play anyways nullifying and speed benifit you may get.

I tend to stay away from SSD for gaming purposes. I used to have 25+ games installed at once on my Steam account and play what ever game I wanted when I felt like it.

Now that I have SSD in both my systems I can only have 3 or 4 games installed due to space restrictions. Some games are 10GB+ easy and that fills up your SSD fast.

You can do a few things to use steam on a 2nd hdd and still use the SSD for OS/Programs, but then whats the point of a SSD I say if your not going to use it.

For the M11X I would not bother with any uber SSD like the Vertex 3 because I have a strong feeling that it wont even be able to extract full benifit from it. My G73 cant run the C300 at full speed even though its faster than my Intel, but my Desktop gets faster numbers just due to the better chipset that handles the drives.

the ssd wont make any difference to the fps in a game as that is down to the CPU and gpu.
the SSD will just give you a little boost on loading time

Only certain games rely on the speed of the HDD/SSD, WoW and Flight Sim X come to mind.

A few spawning functions of EVE online gates are HDD limited. Some crazy ones have been known to use 11GB+ RAMDISKS to milk the full potential of the NPC spawns :D
