a friend of mine bought me a present for getting into college. He bought me an intel x25-e 64gb. My questions are this:

    a) what do I need to prep it for windows 7
    b) will it comfortably run windows 7 and some office / browsing apps (firefox, openoffice, foxit reader, etc.)
    c) how fast is it really?
    d) if I'm just using the ssd for office work, how long should it last (i plan on using minimizing writes tweaks and eventually getting 8gb ram before i actually put the x25-e to use).

    a) The SSD doesn't need prepping for Seven. It is you that needs prepping as Seven will blow you away.
    b) I never knew SDD's can feel comfortable. I guess I'll say yes.
    c) Really fast.
    d) It will last as long as any other HDD if you treat her like a lady. Your SDD won't die any time soon if you only run office work on it.

so you think I should just enjoy it and take caution not to put too much music on it?

Music should be the last of your worries on an SSD.

I read once that any modern (post 2007) SSD will last for something crazy like 25+ years, if it was run 24/7/365 copying and deleting 100GB of data every DAY. Needless to say, you're almost definitely not going to be using it that intensely, so the amount of time it would work is much longer.
