Will be thinking of getting a new computer in next few months. Not sure if it will be a notebook or desktop. I want to be able to make blu-ray discs from video downloaded from video camera. How do I read component specs to make sure it can CREATE as well as read blu-ray discs.

you need to check and see if the system has a blu-ray burner.
If they say blu-ray combo drive, than that most likely means dvd reader only.
You should contact the manufacturer and ask for the model of the dvd drive. Than check on the manufacturers site to see what its burning capacbilities are.

For burning, I use Nero. It is amazing for burning cd's, dvd's and bluray's.
