    Hey guys,

I'm getting a Samsung Q320 with either a T3400 or T6400. Reason being I salvaged a T7500 from an older lappy and I know it'll PHYSICALLY fit. The sockets seem to be the same.

Will this work? The only real notable difference, except for specs, I can think of is the manufacturing technology of 65 and 45 nm and bus speed @ T3400. I could save quite some cash by getting the T3400 version and then upgrading it with my old cpu.

I do not believe this will work. your Q320 has the Montevina Platform, while the T7500 is from the older Santa Rosa platform. Even if it fits, the chipset won't support it and it is trivial that your BIOS will support the CPU as well.

hmm, I'm not so sure about this I though that the Montivina was backwards compatable with the/some of the Santa Rosa chips. maybe someone who knows a little more can enlighten us?

The Montevina platform is compatible with the Santa Rosa CPUs.
    You can upgrade.
In my laptop, I am using a T9300 CPU (for Santa Rosa Platforms) on a Montevina platfrom (PM45 chipset). The only potential problem might be BIOS compatibility but I doubt that.
My laptop came with a T5800 CPU which is a Merom CPU like the T7500 or the T3400 so I think it will work like a charm.
The T9xxx series and the T6xxx series are Penryn CPUs but that shouldn't confuse you.
Just check if the Samsung has PM/GM45 or GM/PM 965 chipset. I think it has PM45 but I am not sure.
In theory you can even put a much faster CPU like the T9900 (unless it's too hot for the laptop). But some shops sell it with the P8700 cpu (2.53GHz).

You might want to double check the pin out here, I am not sure if they are compatible. The number of pins might be the same between the two processors, but layout or pin functions might be different.

More likely than not, you'd never notice the difference between the two processors. Investing in more RAM or a faster hard drive would most likely boost performance more for the same amount of money, and you don't void your laptop's warranty.
