    tried searching to no avail..

My asus a8h has a celeron M 420 (Yonah Core) on an intel 945GM/940GML chipset.

Can i replace the proc with a core duo/core 2 duo proc? I know i won't get speedstep with 940GML, doesn't matter to me.

    What do you guys think?

If it is the 940GML, then it does not support Core/Core 2 series processors. If you have the 945 then you should be good to go with the upgrade. I would recommend double checking the chipset since most utilities I have seen refer to them as 945/940 family. Everest(I think) should be able to differentiate between them.

You can also check the Intel website. They have a Chipset Identification Utility that tells you what chipset you have.

Everest if a very good program. It gves you lots of details about yuor notebook. Try and download the Ultimate version. It has a really annoying bubble that appears, asking you to buy the full product, but since you only need to check the chipset, it should be okay. Everest Home Edition should aso work, but it is older and may not tell you correctly.

If you do upgrade make sure you have the most recent BIOS update from Asus. This will ensure maximum compatibility.

I've got a Gateway MX6214 with the Intel 940GML and the 945GM refers to the graphics chipset. I bought both a T1350 and a T2060 off of ebay. I also upgraded to the latest bios which it said supported the T2060 as of the last revision. Unfortunatly, even with the bios upgrade, because of the 940GML chipset I was unable to upgrade the the T2060. I believe you're in the same boat I am and that's the best chip you'll be able to upgrade to (T1350). Hate to break the bad news to ya. :( You can find the T1350 on ebay for right around $35 or so. Good luck.

    ATI Radeon Express 200m Chipset
