Is there any way I can upgrade the RAM of my notebook using the mini-PCIe bus?

I think I have seen some attmepts for a PCI card that has DIMM slots, and works as a storage device (not exactly, but gigabyte's ramdrive; still oprates via sata). I am looking for such a device except that it uses mini-PCIe interface and SODIMM slot, has no battery, and is "small".

if any one knows about anything like that, I would appreciate letting me know.

    thanks
    T

You could try intel turbo memory.

Small? Well, now you're asking for the impossible. :)

Don't think you'll get anywhere in that direction.

    This smells of NS syndrome.

NS = new system (start saving now).

    moral_hazard,

ITM cannot be used as RAM. Just Storage.

why would you want a RAM disk in a notebook ?

He doesn't: he wants to increase his already maxed RAM.

Intel turbo memory is made to be used when you are low on ram. It is like ram, just worse.
    It works with readyboost.

Yes but it's the closest thing he will get. If he is low on ram and he wants to put something in his miniPCIe slot, that's the thing to use.

BTW I didn't say it was used like ram, I just said it was like ram. What I meant was that when you power off the notebook, the contents will be gone, so you can't use it as storage.

No, not even close by a mile.

It is not the thing to use (for anything, imo) unless you want to waste time and money.

A new, more modern system is what is called for here.

I don't think so. ITM is really just disk cache.

If he is low on RAM and need more RAM, page file is the way to increase it. To the OS, page file is like RAM but much slower. To compensate the speed, he can use SSD.

If you have maxed out the ram your laptop can support and that is still not good enough, it is time to buy a new system.

How much RAM do you need, anyway? 8 GB kits are coming pretty cheap these days, and any device like what you're looking for is likely to be a lot more expensive. And hopefully in a few months, single 8 GB SODIMM sticks will be available for retail and not just OEM, which would mean 16 GB of RAM in your typical notebook. Those will probably still be rather expensive to start out, but they'll be available soon (hopefully).

Ha... I remember the first time I saw 8GB of RAM offered in a laptop. Blew me away.

I remember the first time like 2 GB of RAM was the max. And an 800 MB hard drive was paying through the nose..

What are you doing with your system that leads you to believe that you need more RAM?

Get a desktop or better yet, a workstation/server if you need that much memory. A notebook is not designed to handle the heat and the power requirement for such a thing.
