    Hi Everyone,

sorry for the terrible title and for asking something that has already been discussed.

I am interested in upgrading my Acer 7730 too, I'd like to know what configuration worked for the laptop in the old thread below

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/acer-7730-cpu-upgrade.649927/

I don't know how to message directly the member (hugphot) who posted that thread so I am trying my luck here.

should any of you have time to read that thread or if you too have an Acer 7730 which you successfully upgraded, I'd love to hear from you.

I can also provide full specs of my laptop to discuss possible upgrades if someone is interested in helping me.

    thanks!

@brekka best you can put is:
    T9900/X9100 CPU
    2x 4GB DDR2 RAM
    1GB GT240M MXM II GPU

Now check the prices for these upgrades on ebay, and then check the performance you will get, on notebookcheck. You'll see it is much better to buy a newer machine instead of throwing money into 7730.

Tbh i dont really see the point of upgrading a 8 year old system. A cpu upgrade wont change much because modern CPUs are much better than a 7-8 year old CPU. You'll be better off buying a new laptop but if you still wanna upgrade i suggest you upgrade your HDD to a SSD but idk if your Acer 7730's motherboard is going to recognize it though because its old.

That's because there isn't one. One of those cheap $200 Celeron-based Windows 10 notebooks will run circles around what the OP has.

With only 9 posts since 2012, I don't think hugphot is lurking in the forums anymore, even if you did try to pm him/her.

    Hello,

first I apologize for taking so long in reading/replying to your helpful post.
it has been a very busy time at work.

i 'd like to thank you all for taking the time to answer my post.

@tilleroftheearth i think the same about hugphot, that is why i posted a new thread. also cause i couldn't find a way to PM him/her :)

I agree with you all that there is no much point in upgrading an old machine.
thing is that for the use I do of my laptop this works great.

I had problems with windows (lagging, freezing, overheating, etc) but replacing it with Linux made it work smoothly again.
Because of the use I do of the laptop and the fact it works now better I was wondering if a memory upgrade would have helped me to keep it longer and run better with recent software and app.

of course if upgrading memory means also upgrading CPU, then maybe the HD etc it is totally pointless.
as you all said a new laptop will cost me less.

once again thank you all the for the advice and your time.

wish you all a nice day!
