    hey guys,

i just got my thinkpad in today t23 (older i know) and i plugged it in to charge and nothing. so i was wondering what could be the causes of this?

i checked the ac adaptor and the wire that goes from the adaptor to my laptop has a slice in it with some of the metal wires exposed and they kinda look wrinkled up. i didn't know if that could cause my lappy not to charge or if it could be something else? i'm hoping its not the laptop but the guy who sold it to me charged the battery to full before shipping and i had a 100% charge when i first got it, just don't have the ability to charge now.

    thanks

Does it work otherwise while plugged in?

does the computer indicate it is on AC power when plugged in? if not, the cord might be damaged. if you have a multimeter you can also check the output voltage.

When i plug it in, it's like the cord is not existent.

the computer doesn't say AC or anything, just runs off the battery like nothing wa plugged in even though the charger is plugged in.

like i said, there is a small fray mark on the cord so that might be the problem

    thanks guys.

how would i know if the laptopt itself, and specifically that yellow thing that the charger plugs into is bad??

is there anyway to find that out, cuz i only have this ac adaptor and cant find anyone i know that has a compatible one?

the laptop runs fine off of the battery but as soon as it dies, thats that.

I think the slice in the cord is doing it, since it the + and - sides are touching, the electricty will take the path of least resistance back.

well, if it were actually shorting like that, you would see sparks and the brick would likely shut down from the short. the old power cord on my 600E died from an internal break - it made intermittant contact, and I eventually replaced it with one I got for $15 on Ebay.

testing the laptop would be hard, but checking the output of the cord is pretty easy.

that happened to my HP, then i bought another brick, and it didnt work either...so I pretty much put the laptop away, I didnt want to try to fix it...it was slow anyway.
