I am currently running 2 raptors and am wondering if there will be any need in the near future to upgrade. Currently I am very happy with their performance but I have been told their are other things with price coming down that are formidable. Any thoughts?

SSD's will continue to fall in price and the performance is mind blowing!

That should be on your list of speedy hard drives if you are willing to wait for prices to fall and continue to want super fast drives.

I use a Raptor too! - It does just one thing: scratch drive for photoshop. That it. I love to hear it accessing the drive ...sounds like popcorn, which reminds me - Im hungry.

Raptors run HOT, but that goes with the turf.

I assume you have a desktop from your post, cause 10K drives are not available for laptops.
If you are looking for a faster drive, the velociraptor is a good choice if you have a SATA port.
If you are looking for a really fast drive, than screw the velociraptor and get a real enterprise drive like the Hitachi 15k450.
It is the only 15,000rpm drive which uses perpendicular recording technology allowing sustainable transfer rates of over 200mb/sec.
It is currently the fastest 15krpm drive for enterprise solutions.
It is only available in SAS or Fibre Channel interface, so if you have either of these ports on the motherboard (requires Tyan, or Supermicro server board) or on a add on PCI-X card, you can use one of these drives.

I have Hitachi 15k147's and they are awesome drives, very fast, and they will completely own any wd raptor

You're right of course, modern server hds will own any raptor/velociraptor.... the one's at 15k can have access times as low as 4-5ms. However the OP has not stated his requirements, and server hds are far more expensive than desktop consumer one's.... meaning for the same price you'd get a lot less capacity. Secondly, fibre channel hds are rather hard to set up IME... sas ones are easy though. Just search for an 'SAS HBA' in google. If the OP follows this route, I advise him to buy the hd off of ebay.....

    IMO get an SSD :)

yes they are expensive the 15k450 which is the largest 15k drive is 450Gb and it costs a very pricey $900.

The velociraptor is a much better buy considering its about $0.90 a GB while the 15k450 is $2 a Gb.
I would love to upgrade my 4 15k147's to one or two of these, but they are way too expensive for my blood.

    nice sig jissac
