    hello guys,
First up..this is a fantastic forum and i love wat i read here..latest news/reviews/pics..NBR has got it all :)

I was planning to go in for the Dell 1420 or thr M1330..
and my biggest confusion right now is the processor..

is there any major difference between the above 3 processors..
i'll be using the lappy for browsing/MS apps and occasional gaming..

upgrade from t5250 to t7100 wud cost me as much as $250..is it worth it..?

any links for benchmarks for comparison..

    thanks a ton..

I am actually ordering a step above that, the T7300. I truly believe that if you use both of those, t5250 and the t7100, you will see a difference running certain applications and games.

The T7100 I think is 1.8Ghz, 2MB cache, but a 800mhz FSB, which is really important.

If you can fit it into your budget, I think you should take the upgrade.

Get the fastest you can afford, you will notice a difference...especially with a faster FSB and more L2 cache.

Depends what you're going to do with it. I just ordered my wife a Dell 1420 with a T5250, and I highly doubt she'll miss the horsepower.

If you will mostly use your laptop for web browsing and MS apps, then I don't think that you need the T7100. The T5250 can easily handle those kind of activities.

Absolutely. The T7100 isn't worth $250 extra for just that use. The T5450 might make a good upgrade if it's somewhat cheaper than the T7200, say about $50-100.

The extra FSB of the T7100 and cache of the T7300 only become important if you do a lot of:

    encoding,
high end gaming eg. supreme commander,
    serious photoshopping,
    compiling

In your case I really don't think the extra money for the T7100 is worth it. The T5450 may be, but the T5250 will cope with all your tasks and have power to spare.

Yeah, getting the T5450 might, MIGHT show an improvement in most games (definitly in supreme commander), but for the rest, the T5250 is more than good enough.

    YAY, 1000th Post!

its fine, other than Supreme commander CPU have very little impact on gaming performance.

i dunno how those benchmarks do those CPU tests on games, but my Pentium D 2.8 and X2 4400+ (identical spec everything else) got pretty much identical FPS and they both got pretty much identical FPS as those benchmark sites using X6800 with the same graphics card.

I have a T5200 and it can beat a T2500 2GHz according to SiSoftware Sandra. I dunno if the T2450 is better or not.

    This is what I got.

I would go for the T5250, it has 64-bit and better battery life.

Hi, I'm doing some .Net programming. Occasionally, I may do some coding and compiling on Metrowerks. Would the T5450 with 2Gb Ram be good enough? Thanks a ton.

I'm sure the T5450 would be fast enough for you. An even faster CPU might save a few seconds every now and again but is not a worthwhile investment for occasional use.

about how many times faster are these processors compared to my newly aquired 1.86ghz Celeron in my Acer Aspire 4315-2963?

    2x?
