i usually leave my notebook on ac as i never take it anywhere, is it necessary to take the battery out to prevent any long term damage to it?

I am leaving the battery for most of the time while AC is plug in, and I have no problem with it for two yrs now. However, it will effect the life of the battery.

As long as you run the battery down once or twice a month it should be fine. I never move my laptop and it has been plugged in since last year; I run down the battery about two times per month give or take, and it is in perfect condition.
