    I have a Dell inspiron 1000 with 256K memory.
    I would like to upgrade to 512 but Dell does not have any instock and they don't seem to know when they getting them in.
    Any suggestions as to other brands/manufactrues that will work just as well.
    also what specically am I to look for for this model dell.

    PC2100 DDR SODIMM memory will work. Some good brands are Crucial, Corsair, Buffalo, Simple Tech...

    Ditto...NewEgg is good. Stick with the name brands to avoid compatibility issues though. Kingston and the aforementioned brands are all okay.
