how big of a part does a processor come into play with gaming? what kind of difference would i see with a P9500 (2.53 GHz) processor versus a P8400 (2.26 GHz) processor? Both are Intel Core 2 duos. From my understanding, the graphics card can basically carry a game. And this is for a game like crysis.

The P9500 will only provide a slight increase in fps and physics realism in crysis etc.
The P8400 will be fine for Crysis. Get the P8400, save the money, and get a good HDD and 3GB/+ RAM. -

You will notice a small difference. It comes down to GPU, than HDD speed (i.e 5400rpm, 7200rpm) than processor. Granted, you want a processor that can still be balanced between the three, instead of the processor becoming the weakest link.
Personally, if you are getting a 7200 rpm HDD, and a good GPU, if money isn't a huge issue, you should go with the higher processor, in the long run you'll be better off. -
You won't see any difference between the two. The GPU matters more. Both would work fine for Crysis.

Unless your eye has a built-in FPS monitor, you wont see the difference between the two. Crysis heavily depends on the GPU.
question on cpus.
