A about a month ago i purchased a Black Metal Gear Box USB 2.0+SATA External Hard Drive + WESTERN DIGITAL 500GB 16MB 7200RPM for my dell inspiron 6400 custom PC. (bought the HD enclosure kit here http://www.egoodz.com/product.asp?pf_id=3500SASPWO%5FWD5000 ). Everything is fine when i run USB 2.0 but when i use my Siig eSata II Express Card with a Sata to eSata cable nothing happens. Ive tried turning it on first then plugging it in and shutting down windows etc. My external hard drive has a type L connection for the sata and the card is type I. I assumed even though the cable says sata to esata straight connector cable I thought it would work. Here is the specs of the express card Controller Interface Type: Serial ATA-300
    Data Transfer Rate: 300 MBps
Supported Devices: Hard drive, disk array (RAID)
    Channel Qty: 2
    Max Storage Devices Qty: 2
RAID Level: RAID 0, RAID 1

    Any info would be appreciated.

Do you have a cable with an I port on one side and L port on the other? It should work since the connection is the same just different shape. They canceled the L port for external use and the standard now says that only I is allowed. But a lot of older drives still use L and still work.

Did you install the express card right? Try updating the drivers. eSata should be hot plugable but often it doesnt work and you need to connect the disk and turn it on before booting to make it work.
