i have an aging laptop, (3+ years old - a real dinosaur  ) Advent 7039.
windows 7 32bit is running ok but it only has 1GB of ram which is a bit nominal and the specs say it will not see any more than that.
i has card reader but that doesnt work. however, it has a pcmcia slot so would this help it:
NEW 1GB PCMCIA ATA Flash Card PC AFAYA
    this is from the specs:
    System Performance
    Data Transfer ModePIO 4
Data Transfer Rate to/from Host 16.6Mbytes/sec
    Sequential Read 8Mbytes/sec
    Sequential Write 6Mbytes/sec
    Average Access Time2ms (estimated)

I used 4GB of Class 6 in the SDHC slot of my Panasonic CF-29 and was happy with the difference. I have 2.25 GB of RAM and the less RAM and slower RAM you have, the more difference it will make.

It will not work with more then 4GB, so don't waste your money.

@Azrial, i have only 1GB and will add another 1GB so well under.
also was really asking if PCMCIA would be recognised for readyboost.
    how about the speeds quoted?

I think it needs an access of 1 ms, so it may be a no go..........

Edit; ah Advent 7039, isn't that more like 6+ years old of a system?

er, well yes.. just checked some zipped up drivers files and looks like i've had it 5 years. that means i am 2 years older than i thought :(
used and abused for more than 4 of them, at least 50% for gaming.
still works fine although always did run really hot.
i will take it to another house in another country soon as a spare for browsing and stuff so wanted to make the best of it before i go.

Have you tried using a USB Thumb Drive as ReadyBoost? If you have a good one with good throughput it should work.

@PapaSmurf69: yes that is possible but usb ports are on the back so maybe would get broken.
that would be Plan B though. i will look for a small thumb drive.
the pcmcia slot is unused so would have been a nice internal solution.

Try using eboostr instead of readyboost. I find it to be better than readyboost.

Personally, I never saw any benefit with eBoostr or ReadyBoost.
