    Heya,

I have a Dell Inspiron 5150 with 2x256mb PC2700 RAM memory. Since I'm wanting to make my laptop a little faster I thought I'd upgrade this to either 2x512 or 1x1024+1 of my old 256mb. The problem is that I'm in Japan atm and they don't seem to sell the major brands i know (kingston/corsair) etc, and I was wondering if there really is a lot of difference in quality or speed between similar memory of different brands. The main ones I see here are Elecom, Buffalo, ADTEC and Iodata. Its quite hard to find reviews their cards, so I don't really know which are good and which arent. Does anyone know any of these brands and whether theyre ok or not? Or does it not really matter and can i just buy the cheapest?

Also, I sometimes see "unbuffered" in the descriptions of some of the memory, what does this mean?

    Thanks a lot in advance,

    JaySee

Notebook memory is generally the same all around . . . make sure that the brand you are looking at has a lifetime warranty on their RAM. Buffalo is a rather well-known brand so in my opinion it is safe to go with them.

You want the unbuffered RAM. Buffered aka Registered RAM is used mainly in servers or in platforms that need a lot of stability. It's not something to worry about.

Buffalo is one of the cheaper brands here, so I'll just get that then... thanks for the help! :D
