I just want to compare the speed difference between the nVidia 7600 (on the Compal HGL-30) with 256mb ram, vs a 8400gs (on the Sony VGNSZ650NC) with 64mb ram.

How much of a drop in performance is it between the two?

    Thanks :)

    1) you have posted in the wrong forum

    2) there is a sticky in the "gaming" forum that already answers your question

    3) please search the forum for your answer before making a new post

    FYI the go7600 is better.

Since you wanted a number, I'd say you're looking at around 30-40 fps in HL2 with the 8400GS vs. 40-50fps with the Go7600 under 1280x800 medium/low settings.

I have to disagree with the medium/low settings in Half-life 2. I ran high settings no problem with my old 64mb ATI x600 1280x800 and still maintained 40-50fps. Both of these card are much better than the x600.

Umm... no. More like that framerate at 1280x800 with max settings and some AA/AF for the 8400M GS.
