Ive got this PCMCIA typeII card which gives me SCSI inputs for a neg scanner and another that gives me firewire inputs.
However, the laptop Im thinking of buying doesnt have a PCMCIA slot (or firewire for that matter). Any USB adapters out there that I can plug a PCMCIA card into? While googling, Ive seen a few SCSI to USB, but have not seen a definitive device to turn a USB input into a firewire input. I have some firewire gear that looks like its going extinct. Any idea's?

Why don't you just buy a USB PCMCIA card? Or search around eBay.

does it not have expresscard either?

firewire will never go extinct, because it can be used as a raw data interface, whereas usb always transfers data in blocks. the "480mb p/s" is a bunch of bullcrap.

also, pcmcia and expresscard are more direct interfaces, and dont limit the speed of firewire like a usb adapter would. they are basically pci-e x1 (pcmcia is pci)

maybe you could get a real full speed expresscard slot from an empty minipci-e slot?
i would say its worth a try.

Wow, that sounds easy! Why didnt I think of that??? Umm, no Joel, been there done that.
No it doesnt. All it has are four USB2's so my inputs are limited. And for those who may wonder, yes Im talking about the ASUS g-73. I can see that they are shaving costs by not incorportating interfaces that fewer and fewer people are using, but damn, eliminate firewire? Does that mean we go out and buy new stuff because we cant plug in our old stuff? ITS A PLOT!

Yes for the Asus G73 because it is focused as a gaming notebook.

General notebooks will have a expresscard slot and/or 4pin firewire.
