    Hi everybody

I just bought a new 1GB 533 Ram for my I6000. I also have the factory 256MB 400 and was wondering whether I should live it in the system or not? I know that whole memory will slow down to 400 but also there will be 25% more of it. Will this improve the system speed comparing to only 1GB 533?

Please post these in the correct forum. Doesn't it make sense to you that it should be in "Mods and Upgrades"?

Is your machine made for 533 MHz RAM or 400? If it is made for 400, it will automatically downclock the 533 to 400. If that is the case, why didn't you just buy 400? Anyway, I took out the 256 MB of RAM that came standard with mine and threw in 1 stick of 1GB 533 MHz DDR2. You won't notice the difference in my opinion if you leave the old RAM in especially if your machine supports 533, then definately remove the old RAM, I would take it out and put it on ebay or something. That way you can throw another stick of 1G or 512, whatever the max capacity is for your laptop later, so you will have the empty slot to stick it right in and your done.

so, you're saying that performance of a system with 1GB @533 will be in general faster than 1.25GB @400?
can anyone alse please comment on this?

The more RAM, the better. 400MHz DDR2 vs 533MHz doesn't make any noticable difference. 1.25 will be more of a benefit than 1.0GB.

the ram will only run as fast as the motherboard chipset will allow (unless you are overclocking the memory).

So installing 533 in a 400 machine or 400 in a 266 machine is unnecessary and a waste of money.

My question was whether to use 1GB @533 or 1.25GB @400??? which option is better for system performance?

I'd put a 1 gb stick in with the 256 mb- more memory is always better- that is, unless your memory runs in dual channel mode, then I'd buy 2 512 PC3200 modules and sell the 256 on Craigslist or here.
