I use my T500 as a desktop replacement, and currently have a 19" as an external, but would like a much larger external.

I saw one for a good price, but it's resolution (and more importantly, it's PPI) is lower than I am familiar with...
It's a 26" with a maximum computer monitor resolution of 1360x768, which is 60 PPI.
DPI Calculator / PPI Calculator PPI calc.

I've been using a 86 PPI monitor for years and it's been fine.

What would a density of 60 PPI be like, on a 26"...

Could it be used for casual surfing (not for high quality video or image applications)?
I think images are easier to show at low PPI, but how is 60 PPI for text, where sharpness is more needed?

It's way too low to show sharp text. You want at least a 90 PPI/DPI or so. That 26" is basically a TV that's being positioned as a "monitor". It'll be fine for pictures, games and movies, but not so much for text, especially because of the highly limited vertical resolution.
