Hi I have Toshiba Tecra M11 with i5-520m with a dedicated video nvidia gt218. I'm wondering if I can upgrade to any socket g1 quad.

The reason I'm asking is because toshiba sold these with i7 620m dual cores and I don't believe I've seen one with a quad core. I'm not sure the cooling is up to it as the i5 is 35 TDP and the i7 is 45 TDP. Does any one know of a hacked toshiba bios for this.

    Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

yes but the 620m max out at 8gb of ram. The quads can handle up to 32gb of ram. I need to put in 2 x 8gb chips. Thanks

You need to check whether the Motherboard support 32GB of memory.

they say no but many people with qm57 like the w510 have put in 32gb (8gb chips) of ram even when intel says the i7 720qm 820qm etc can only take 8gb. My tecra m11 should take 16gb with 2 x 8gb chips.

The W510 is a mobile workstation and was specifically designed to handle that much RAM, so were the Precisions and Elitebooks w series of that time. Other laptops may or may not take 32GB, but they will at least take 16GB in 4x4 config with a quad core. At least one Dell XPS Studio model doesn't like 2x8GB even with a quad core CPU so definitely check whether it has been done before because it may or may not work depending on your particular laptop model.
