"best" when it comes to gaming and running multiple programs

Core 2 Duo is currently the leader in this department.

I vote for the Core 2 Due 2.0 GHz because it has a 4 MB cache.

Don't even look at that P4 that is a rubbish processor that only guzzles down power and produces alot of heat, all of the other processors are WAY better than that...but you should choose the core2duo.

Do remember that the graphics card is important if you want to play any modern games. Even if you have a Core 2 Duo and have a GMA950, its going to be poor gaming machine. As for as running multiple programs any of those processors are quite capable provided you have decent amount of RAM.

More info on what sort of applications you plan to run would help.

The Athlon64 isn't that much behind the 1.83GHz Core 2. They're both quite fast chips, and I'd draw the difference on the features of the rest of the machine.

well i am kinda looking for which would perform the best based on each one having basically the exact same specs for ram, hdd, gpu, etc.,

i started this poll because i am looking into purchasing a laptop and found on eurocom.com that
    EUROCOM M570U DIVINE from $2,129 Canadian --- has a core2duo

    while the

    EUROCOM D900T PHANTOM from $2,899 --- has the p4
this model has some extras including a built-in subwoofer, wireless networking etc.,

both are open to customization and accessories, but a p4 for $2899??

I bought my POS 3.2GHz P4 Prescott Ed. w/ ram hdd gpu etc., for $850 one and a half years to two ago.

In that case, the Core 2 Duo system is better.
If you need the extras with the P4 system, buy them separately, and it'll still probably be cheaper.
    Much better performance too.

The Core 2 Duo is currently the leader in mobile processors as mentioned.

I would eliminate the D900T since the P4 is really a very dated processor at this point. There are other Clevos available with more punch if the M570U is not enough for you--although I can't see why it wouldn't be.

I voted C2D. The con of intel (and pro of AMD) is the price.

Best performance, and also, I believe, the coolest (not sure). Amd i generally the cheapest, but price/performance varies from laptop to laptop and the C2D creams the turion performance wise.

When one sayeth "that is the best of processor", one measure the greatness of the performance.

I think if you are going to go core 2 duo, you should go thru the trouble to be sure you get the one with the shared cache. Like this 5600
however a higher clockspeed AMD x2 chip gets darn near the speed of a C2D. i wouldnt say C2D creams the Turion. But if two notebooks cost about the same and have roughly equivalent specs I'd choose a C2D over a Turion.
Though i'd wait a month if you could. Prices are sure to come down on C2D and Turion when quad cores are more common. Or you could just go for a quad core when they have those on laptops.

just get the C2D because later in the future most programs are going to hog your cpu

quad cores on laptops are will not be released at least within the next year or so , santa rosa will be the next successor to c2d and is based on the same chipset...
quad core's on laptops are just too far ahead to think about
