Google the model, WD5000BEVT, and you will be able to find out that it is 5400RPM.

It's fast though. It beats 90% of the 7200rpm drives when it comes to real life performance.

Only WD Scorpio Black and Hitachi 7K500 are faster.

I've had both the Seagate 7200.4 and Hitachi 7k500. In my opinion, there's no difference in real world usage. I can't say much about the WD.

The 7K500 will copy a folder or install a large program about 40% faster than the 7200.4.

If you don't notice those differences maybe it's a good idea to use a stopwatch.

WD Scorpio Black rocks for sure!

now what I'm waiting for the most this week is benchmark result from Phil! :D
I was about to get this drive (Scorpio Blue 500GB),, but since there was a chance to get a Scorpio Black I took the black one, 7200rpm

How often do I copy/past a folder? Not very often. I did a clean install on the Hitachi. It did not seemed markedly faster to me as I recall, though you're right, I did not have a stopwatch, so .

The things I'm most attuned to are how fast it boots, there the Hitachi did seem a bit quicker, how fast fast applications open and how fast it logs on. Perhaps if you copy/paste files all day, then you should get the Hitachi.

True, when it comes to read performance (booting, launching applications) the difference is small.

When it comes to writing or multitasking the difference becomes bigger.
