the caps key on my hp g42 is stiff and no longer clicks right. how can i pop the key off this laptop and see what is going on?

is like desktop keyboards where i just pull up and it pops off?

Are you sure you didn't spill anything on it or get food crumbs into it? Try to blow out trapped particles with compressed air. Or if it is genuinely stuck, bring it to your local repair shop and they will order a new keyboard for you if it is still under HP warranty. If not then just bite the bullet and order a new keyboard..

Adunno maybe you pushed particles to somewhere else on the keyboard? Good to hear it worked.

Usually it's crumbs or some string or something that gets underneath them. That's why Lenovo when they did this new keyboard on the T400s series and up they talked about tigher key spacing to help mitigate crumbs falling in there :)

I generally clean my keyboard with compressed air few times a week anyways, i hate seeing it look all dusty.
