Which of these two CPUs would you recommend?

Theres these 2 Acer Aspire laptops, and the one with the i5 costs about $50 more and has 320 GB space instad of 500 GB:

    ATI Radeon HD5850 DDR3 1 GB
    Core i5-460M 2.53GHz
    4 GB RAM
    320 GB

    ATI Radeon HD5850 DDR3 1 GB
    AMD Phenom II X4 N930
    4 GB RAM
    500 GB

I was surely going for the first one but I am still waiting for it to be available sometime this week, getting pretty impatient, the other one is available right now but I am not sure if its worth it

It really depends on what you are doing, but generally I'd take the Core i5. The Phenom II Quad cores don't have Turbo Boost, so if you don't do multi-threaded stuff much you aren't going to benefit from the Phenom II.

I'd say i5 also, you can easily upgrade the hard drive later if a bigger one is needed.
The quad core phenoms realy bottleneck single/dual threaded applications

If you do video encoding or something of the sort. But keep in mind that even then, the i5 will be almost equal (possibly even better depending on the application). It's just that in lightly threaded tasks, the N930 is atrocious because it has no Turbo Boost, runs at a low clock speed and features a crippled version of a 2 year old CPU architecture.

i'd say the i5... its worth the $50 more.. AMD's quads are just not up to standard in laptops.. their desktop ones are way better.

From those GPUs I'm guessing you want to game.

Then note this: the N930 would HANDICAP the HD5850.

I had an Acer 5553G 2 months ago, with N930 and HD5650 (much weaker than 5850), yet the N930 still absolutely crapped out in most games in which the 5650 should have handled with ease (having framerates of 50% or even 25% of what's shown in benchmarks of people with i5 460M + HD5650).

You can read more about my experience and complaints with it here.

hmm, I am not sure if other people in your thread agreed with you or not there..

I can get the 5850 with an i5 for about $120 more, so IF I do go for that, which of these would you recommend :

    Easynote LX86-JO-075GE
    # Intel Core i5 460M
    # 500 GB HDD
    # 4096 MB DDR-3-RAM
    # ATI Radeon HD5850 2048MB VRAM DDR3

    Acer Aspire 7745G-484G50MNks
    # Intel Core i5-480M
    # 500 GB HDD
    # 4096 MB DDR-3-RAM
    # ATI Radeon HD 5850 (1024 MB), HDMI, WLAN-n, BT

theres little to no difference between the 2 CPUs so taking other things into consideration (make/design/..) which should I go for?

    Both cost the same

If you are gaming I would go with the 5850 and pony up more cash. Graphics cards 99.9% of the time cannot be upgraded later on. There really is no difference between those i5's. Many benchmarks show that "extra speed" only makes a difference in synthetic benchmarks and not much difference in real world usage.

It is not advisable to use a low-clocked quad core without turbo boost. Especially an AMD, which (I think) is slower clock-for-clock than a Core 2 Quad.

not sure if youre just trolling me

i have already decided to get a laptop with an i5, now I posted two laptops, the Easynote LX86 and the Acer Aspire 7745G , both have the same specs and an i5. I am asking which laptop would you recommend of the 2, in regard to the make company/laptop design/etc.. ?

I think the reason you are not getting much of a response is that nobody has any idea of what an "Easynote" is and the specs of the two laptops are awfully similar. Can you check who is the manufacturer of the Easynote? It could be just a rebranded Acer or something.

Also, do you know what the displays are on those two machines? That's generally a pretty good way of breaking a tie.
