Actually this is what it says.

Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.
Make sure any hard disk drivers are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program.
    Setup cnanot continue.

Guys I can read and the HDD is intalled correct what in the world am I doing wrong to receive this message??

No I don't have a SATA drive. What I done is took the old HDD out put the new one(HDD) in and put Windows XP disk in and it through that message I posted above so what I'll have to do is make a makedisk.exe to eget things going.. Thanks Chem...

From what I can see, the 7200.2 is available only as SATA so you most likely have to install the SATA driver.

Does the BIOS recognise the HDD?

Yes, you do. You can either slipstream the SATA drivers to a "homemade" XP install disc using nlite or disable SATA support in BIOS (if you have that option).

Guys please forgive me when the question was asked I thought it ment SATA drive as in having a driver disk which I don't have, but I do have a SATA drive as in the Seagate HDD itself I will have to check and see does BIOS recognise the HDD. R4000 please understand I'm new at this and trying to understand, but when you say "slipstream the SATA drivers to a "homemade" XP install disc using nlite" how do I do this? Goodness I didn't know it would be this hard to install a HDD, but beleive you me I appreciate all the help just bare with me I'm trying Guys...

If you have access to a CD burner then get nLite and use it to add all the drivers (preferably the latest versions) to your XP CD. If the XP is not SP2 then download the full SP2 package from Microsoft and merge that in as well.

This is probably the SATA driver you need. Or maybe it is this one. What I don't know (because I have never tried it) is whether your notebook will read a flash drive instead of a floppy disk. Slipstreaming the drivers into the XP installation package avoids this uncertainty.

John I'm thinking it will read a flash drive, but I know for certain I can't put a floopy disk inside it for reading the info. like on my desktop. The XP disk I have here is XP Pro. with SP2 what I'm going to do know John is use the info. you gave and try to get things going to get this HDD up and running. I will be getting back with you all letting everyone know how I'm doing with this... Thanks
