I want to upgrade the RAM of my compaq v2000. When I open the rear cover, I saw a ram card inside. I think there should have another slot for the second RAM card. Where could I find it?

By the way, could you share your experience of upgrade the RAM for compaq v2000?

    Thanks a lot!

It is probably under the keyboard. The service manual which should be on HP's website will cover how to get access to it.

remove the ram cover on the bottom, there are two slots stacked over each other...usually the first stick is the closest to you and the second is behind it.

make sure you do not have static.(discharge youself by holding a metal part which is grounded, like desktop PowerSupply/casing metal screw etc).

Ofcourse I believe you got the right memory, then you should not have any problems.

I'm a big fan of turning the computer off and removing the battery/ac adapter when installing RAM. If you're never gotten the chance to put a memory stick into a powered on computer you are missing out! Anyway, I'd just make sure right after you install it that it all registers. Check the BIOS or in the General Tab in windows. Make sure that you have the total you were expecting (minus 64MB or 128MB for the shared video most likely). Having experience working on computers daily, it is not unheard of for a RAM manufacturer to send out a whole batch of defective memory. If it's defective try and get it exchanged within the return policy if possible. I know most memory has a lifetime warranty but it's so much faster just to go straight to the store (assuming you did buy at brick and mortar) than to do it through the manufacturer.

You might want to run memtest for an hour or so after you install, just to make sure it's good. ;)
