Hi, I'm looking for a hard drive to buy for a Asus z70va hopefully as inexpensive as possible but with a capacity of more than 60 gigs. Is there a generic hard drive type which will be compatible? Where can I find one?

I cannot pinpoint whether your system has a ATA or a SATA laptop harddrive.
Please run HDTUNE, and post a benchmark. In the top left of the hdtune window, their will be a pull down menu with the model of your harddrive.
I am about 75% convinced you have a ATA/IDE/PATA harddrive, so if that is the case, do not get the drive dude55 recommended. Its a good drive, but it is not a good bang for the buck, and it is not very fast.
The fastest harddrive for the ATA interface is the Samsung HM160HC, and it can be had for about $65. Its a 160Gb 5400rpm drive, and it is faster than any other harddrive for the ATA interface.

Here is my review of the Samsung HM160HC, I have comparisons between my Hitachi 7k100 100gb ide 7200rpm drive, and a few other 5400rpm IDE drives, and the Samsung is the fastest of them all and it is very inexpensive.
I had the samsung drive for about 6 months now, and it has run perfect.
