    wut?

im browsing the web while burning a cd on my inspiron 600m and it starts beeping. the refresh rate of my screen goes down to like once every 2 seconds. the screen then goes completely static with various colors thrown into the black and white. It then refreshes itself and says "VPU graphics card failure, had to be reset, blah blah".. it might have been VTU i dont remember exactly. my computer is not as bad atm but its terrible while scrolling. any ideas on what this problem is?

edit: really loud beeps regardless of speakers on mute, laptop running really hot doing basic web browsing

Clogged fans? Bad driver? Try updating to a new driver and see if that fixes the problem.

As already mentioned by notyou, clean out your fans and update drivers. Also make sure you are allowing your computer to get enough air (i.e. you aren't resting your laptop on you bed). You should never block your laptops vents. Lastly, download a temperature monitoring program like HWMonitor to see what your temps are like.

lol i cleaned the fans last week. i undervolted a while ago and have the fan speeds set to engage earlier. i'll d/l the drivers (assuming theres only one current driver d/l and not like 50 choices) not exactly sure what it is haha. i also hooked up a second monitor 2 days ago then unplugged it after like 5 minutes of use. could it still be set for dual monitors despite there being no separate monitor attached?

temps avg about 42C in standard use on a ping pong table in a very cool basement
