    So i bought a new cpu for my 6831 fx, a t9900.
I put the cpu in and reconnect everything and when i hit the power button, nothing happens.
I try this multiple times, until I re-insert my old processor, and everything works fine....
what could be the issue here, or do I have a bad processor...

    Welcome to the forum!

A defective or improperly seated CPU would be my guess.

after doing some research, would inserting the new cpu them resetting cmos be a good idea? as in pulling out the battery for 30 seconds?

Personally, I don't think it will get you anywhere, but it won't hurt either.

    You've got nothing to lose.

    Good luck.

In my experience, an incompatible CPU will either:

    a) Allow the machine to start, but will not POST

    b) Fry the board altogether

Since none of the above has happened to you, I'm presuming that the CPU is bad.

    However...

Your current CPU is 667MHz Merom and you're attempting to install a 1066MHz Penryn. There's a slew of reasons why this could possibly not work, starting with BIOS support or lack thereof.

    Good luck.

Here goes I think the T9900 is 1066 fsb and your P-6831FX is fsb 800 so that processor will not work unless you have the P-7811FX that is 1066 fsb will take the T9900 so you lost your money on a processor that is pin and power incompatible with your P-6831FX. If you would've posted sooner here I would've told you that the highest you could go was a T9300 or T9500 processor. I have a P-6860FX and I have a T9300 in there and it works and that is fsb 800. So unless your replacement processor is fsb 800 it won't work.

    It likely would. However...

It is an expensive and hot-running CPU. It requires a *premium* cooling system.

You'll be much better off with a T9300.

Take it from someone who builds custom laptops using this generation of CPUs on weekly basis.

    Good luck.

Yes a x9000 will work just perfectly. I had the same model laptop in the day. It was my first truly gaming laptop. I loved that laptop, the 8800m was able to overclock about 35% without any problems.
