False advertising. Using a SSD will not increase your fps. It will help cut down load times though.

Yea, no SSD can improve framerates...load times are massively improved though, so you will get that boost. No real difference between SSD's, but I advise strongly against ANY Sandforce-based SSD. The HyperX is such a drive. Sandforce controllers have had massive issues many of which remain unresolved today. They have a nasty habit of dying after a couple months' use.

No, I did not state that that specific article said that.

I have read it before in another SSD article though.

Possible, if VRAM is maxed and RAM is both maxed. Of course, the FPS would be so low it wouldn't really matter.

Interesting, from your signature, I noticed your desktop system uses a V2 SSD which uses sandforce controllers.

Yes, that was before I knew better. I had a terrible time getting it to work and OCZ was extraordinarily rude during the whole process, basically telling me that I needed a new motherboard because it was too outdated (riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight....this was also nearly a year ago). I will never buy another OCZ product again, at least not until their CS improves massively. And I avoid Sandforce like the plague. I count myself lucky that the thing still works...and it has noticeably slowed down too. I hesitate to touch the thing though what with the week it took me to get it to work (turned out that apparently their drives are aften incapable of installing in AHCI mode, I ended up having to install Windows in IDE mode and then do the BIOS/registry switch.)

In the Sep 11 PC Gamer, they reviewed the Samsung 470 and V3 and compared SSD vs HDD and claimed in Farcry 2 and Stalker COP the SSD had 3 more fps. But no increase in DA2.

Here is one example of how an SSD can increase the Minimum FPS compared to a HDD based system:

    See:
AnandTech - Intel X25-M SSD: Intel Delivers One of the World's Fastest Drives

As I mentioned before, it depends on the game in question and also on the rest of the system's configuration too.

While many (gamers) are more concerned with the Average and Maximum FPS score achievable, the minimum FPS score is the one that actually dictates how 'playable' or at least 'enjoyable' the title is in actual game play (note: not a gamer myself).

This is where an SSD can make a difference, but again - it depends on the specific title we're talking about.

To optimize a system to achieve the highest (min/avg) FPS's it is basially the same as optimizing a system for productivity. Simply have more than enough RAM (4/6GB is not enough in 2011, imo), use a partition strategy that optimizes the HDD's strengths and use an ongoing maintenance strategy to maintain that performance as much as possible (over time...).

    See:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...itachi-7k500-benchmark-setup-specifics-7.html

An HDD maintenance program would include periodically removing unneeded temp files (Ccleaner), updating the drivers/software as required, Windows Updates and a good defrag program like PerfectDisk 12 Professional.

A system that had a minimum 40 FPS and Average/Maximum's of 50/80 would be more preferable to one that was 25 FPS (Min) and the same even higher Avg/Max FPS's 'scores'.
