OK, I was just wondering if it was a Dell Studio 15 - that specific model seems to suffer from high failure rates of the fan controller.

I am pretty sure ANDY mentioned in a few old posts that you need to reflash the bios on the gemstone series in order to get the fan to run properly.

You need to go to Acer's website, and download another bios revision. Their should be support information on Acer's website.
I sent a message to andy, but he hasnt responded yet. When he does, he can tell you which bios to use.

    Is it the Aspire 5930G?

I think the 5930G only has one fan shared by both the CPU and GPU, so if the GPU temps are a bit high, the fan will run at a faster rpm to cool down the GPU. You can try undervolting the CPU, but I doubt it'll help much if those are the idle CPU temps. Flashing the BIOS is risky stuff, esp because I see loads of Acer users in the Acer section with bricked mobos due to bad BIOS flashes.

You can find the latest BIOS at the Acer Euro Support site, and the instructions will be included with the BIOS release.

You can check which BIOS version you have using CPU-Z and compare it with the latest version on the support site.
