I want to partition my drive so I can install XP Pro 32-bit, Vista Ultimate 64, Ubuntu, and perhaps fedora or something.

However, I would also like to have some extra storage, since it will strap my hard drive for space.

I would like to keep music/install games/have videos on this external drive. So I can access them from all OS's, depending on compatibility.

What is the speed difference between USB & Firewire for this?

Would it be worth it to buy an expresscard that can handle E-Sata like this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16839139001 ?

Any recommendations for external storage? :]

I was thinking of a WD passport elite, unless the E-sata slot will provide MUCH better speed. Then again, for the price of e-sata+external I could get a new internal hard drive.. :p

I'm just not sure of the actual difference in speed between an expresscard e-sata drive, a usb external, and a firewire one. Or of it would just be better to upgrade my internal.

Bah humbug. I just don't know.

There're some good external enclosures that have eSATA now, for under 50 USD.

Here's one I had my eye on.

Pair it with this, and you're saving a pretty penny.

Really, the advantage of having eSATA (which is ~10 times faster than USB) comes only if you are planning to install programs on the external HD. For storage I wouldn't bother.
