I'm waiting for the faster X2's to come out, because right now it seems that you can only get the 1.5ghz, which is pretty bad.

Turion X2, especially given the better GPU you get with it. But I'd like to see the higher-end models become available too. The 1.6GHz TL52 is OK for most people, but...

Right now you can get na Duo core that is twice as fast, for half the price. I bet that when the better X2s come out they will be very pricey..

My Duo Core owns pl0x? Very fast.. 1.86 ghz

If you need it go with the Core Duo.
You'll get more battery life with the GMA as well.

If you have a particular need for 64bit, then stick with the Turion X2, otherwise I'd say Core Duo since they are faster right now (are they cheaper too? Not looked at the prices since I got my laptop)

I would say look harder. I'm pretty sure you can find a Duo with a dedicated card for gaming that beats the x2.

Interesting article on current Core Duo vs. just released TurionX2 was picked up by the AMDZone website -- original is in French and here is a Google translation into English (so so)...looks like they each have some wins in the bakeoff and that AMD is going to have to do something interesting to stay even when Merom comes out....

buy a core duo and in a year, upgrade to core 2 duo (equivalent to the turion x2). core 2 duo will be much better, and several yonah (core duo processor) laptops have been confirmed to work with merom (core 2 duo processor) just by swapping out the processors. some will need a bios update, while other laptops do not.
