    for 150$ you can upgrade from a 120gb 5400rpm hd to a 100gb 7200rpm hd
both have a 8MB buffer cache size and the spindle start time is the same
the only difference is that the average seek time is different by 1.5 ms.

So my question is.... is it really worth spending 150$ to get the upgrade?
    Computer would be a dell 6400 (e1505)
    1gb ram
    t2400 processor
    x1400 vid card...

not to be vague, but only you can answer this question.

is it worth it to you to spend 150 to get 20 less GBs with 1800 more rpm?

you may want to price HDs out somewhere like newegg

    NO ,

Its not worth to pay 150$ for that , however its worth to skip the 120GB all togther and stay with the basic Dell drive ( usually a 60 GB 5400rpm ) then spend about 180$ to buy the 7k100 at your favorite store .

    Good luck .

I think no. I prefer getting more GB in 5400 rpm that less GB in 7200 rpm. 5400 rpm is good for normal gaming or office/photoshop use.

For $150, you can almost buy a 100GB 7200RPM SATA drive. It is a ripoff. If it was a $50 upgrade, it still might not be worth it, because you loose 20GB of storage space for extra performance that you may or may not benefit from.
