im thinking about getting the crucual c300 128gb sata III

Newegg.com - Crucial RealSSD C300 CTFDDAC128MAG-1G1 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

ive seens some threads on the 64gb and 256gb version but i havent seen any on the 128gb.

reviews, pricing, and user feedback have been promising. however im going to be using this on a SATA II connection and i havent seen any feedback on how it performs on SATA II.
if anyone has firsthand experience with this ssd i would sure like to hear from you especially if you used it on SATA II
fwiw my usage profile is surfing, video editing, gaming, excel and word, photo editing, movies and music mostly in that order. i plan to use a 2nd HDD in my optical bay as a data disk.

I'm reviewing a bunch of SSD drives at the moment including the C300. I don't want to tell all the details but I'd go with Sandforce.

By the way I'm using it on ICH9. The controller seems to make a big difference.

Edit: seems I was too early with my judgements. I'll post later more.

when i looked at some review they were indeed comparing the crucial to the sandforce but the sandforce ssds seem to be more expensive.
the thing is ill be using it on sata 2 achi connection and maybe some of the benefits you see on your desktop wont translate well to a notebook on sata 2.
i would still like to see the results of your findings though.
im not looking for the absolute best regardless of price, but im looking for a 128gb with a reasonable price and performance. at 260usd that crucial looks quite tempting despite its slow write speed. if you have any other suggestions id be happy to hear them out however.

thanks for the recommendations. those all seem like top performers but im really looking for something less than 270usd.
so far the crucial c300 seems to be the best in this price range. im also considering the kingston ssdnow v. i did a quick search on the a-data s599 you mentioned and it does seem to be a good ssd , hopefully it goes for less than 270usd shortly after its release.

    I don't think I've ever mentioned A-data...

But yeah C300 > WD Edge > Kingston.

The WD Edge 128GB is going for $199 now at the egg. That's a bargain.

wow that price is awesome for the wd edge!
any caveats? i know its not a fast writer like the crucial and kingston. i also know that it uses more power. anything i should be wary of (firmware, failure rate, defects, wear)?
im not very versed in ssd's so pardon the many ?'s

I actually think it writes faster then the Kingston V and it's also power efficient.

It's just not the fastest controller but hey ... what do you want for $199.
