Hi, my new sony vaio tx5xn cooler is working all the time and it's really annoyed me. Maybe anyone know how to reduce sound or maybe there is any way to exchange the cooler for a quiet one? I often move with my laptop so a cooling base is not very suitable for me.

I dont think ULV processors can be undervolted with CPU Rightmark. The ULV processors are sold as running at their lowest possible stable voltage.

What concerns me is that the processor you have is not all that power hungry. Meaning that it isnt designed to make a lot of heat.

You should try to clean your cpu fan/heatsink/vents cause dust buildup will cause the fan to become ineffective and make the chip run hotter than its designed to.

You will not be able to swap notebook heatsinks, because the design of the heatsink is completely dependent on the design of the rest of the notebook. Meaning that the shell and structure of most laptops are different, and this heatsinks cannot be swapped.

Try cleaning it out, and let us know if that fixes anything

You can also try running MSCONFIG in the run menu.
Disable/shut off all background processes, services and programs which are eating up your cpu cycles, and that should help keep your processor running cool.

ok after several tests I managed undervolted all multipliers (actually not much but only this was possible, from 0.9750V till 0.9375V) and under Orthos CPU loader test temp. fall down from 70C till 64C but I mostly use internet and nothing more so my CPU doesn't have many job and in this point there is no difference in temp. (I checked surfing inter. with RMclock and without). As wrote K-TRON ULV processors are not very suitable for undervolting.

I don't think cleaning fun will help because I bought this laptop new and I also read some tests so people claim that this fun is working all the time and this is normal thing in this model.

Is there any other method to make CPU cooler? Maybe Disable/shut off all background processes will help a bit?

Disabling and shutting off background processes will greatly decrease cpu and memory usage. Read the last part of my previous post and go into MSCONFIG where you can shut off these background processes. You should not have more than 35 processes running in the background, so shut off as many as you can, to get the background processes down to that level.
To know how many processes you are using, open task manager, and it will say in the bottom left corner. Aim for about 30-35 processes for idling. That will decrease cpu load and thus temperature.

go to the start menu, and go to the run command
    than type in MSCONFIG.

If in vista, go to the search bar and type in run
that will give you the run command.

If your in xp, than the run command is right above the logoff button

System configration is the SCONFIG of MSCONFIG. The M stands for microsoft.

You need to go into the startup and services tabs and shut off programs which you are not using.
Say if you have realplayer, adobe reader and aim set to open on startup. Well what you can do is disable them from startup. This will keep teh processes from running in the background. But please keep in mind, if you want to use say aim, realplayer they will still work, they will load when you click on the shortcut. Using msconfig just shuts the program off from running in the background, so it uses less system resources.

    good advice K-TRON! Thanks :)

I disabled 17 out of 23 programs form startup in msconfig. I visited a useful page - (netsquirrel.com/msconfig/msconfig_vista.htm)l - and checked with long list (sysinfo.org/startuplist.php?filter=msascui) which programs are really necessary.

Now if I don't use my CPU much, temp doesn't go over 50C and fun is not working ( it never happened before!)
