My clevo m570 wont boot, the screen and laptop turns on but the screen only shows a black screen and i can hear the fan going. The power light also comes on but thats it.

The last thing i did when it worked was playing operation flashpoint and ot just turned off. When i tried to turn it back on all i get is a black screen. Am sure the screen itself is ok becaude i can adjust the backlight etc with the fn button.

Remove the battery, unplug it and let it sit for two minutes. Try powering it on again. The scenario you describe sounds like it shut down to prevent thermal damage from overheating. If that is indeed the case, hopefully, nothing got fried.

Try to boot with a Ubuntu USB Key or Live CD - that will at least ensure that the hardware is fine.

If it does boot - you simply need a re-install of Windows. Remove your HDD from the system to connect (with an external USB enclosure) to another system to retrieve your data - then, simply do a recovery install (built into the system) or (preferred), do a clean Win7 install.

If it doesn't boot with the LiveCD or USB key - you've melted something critical inside (MB/GPU/Power circuits/???) - sell for parts on eBay and go shopping for a new (used...) system.

    Good luck.
