So before the upgrade the bios needed only 1 second. Now it gets stuck at bios for a good 12-15s and then goes into windows...

What options do I have, change a bios setting?
    Flash a newer bios?
    flash a modified bios?

I installed 2*2gb on to a laptop based on the Intel 945GM chipset, Yes I know this chipset does not support 4gb but I put in 4gb to get maximum memory and dualchannel.

the laptop is Fujitsu Siemens V3205 same model as Fujitsu Siemens SI1520

Intel 945GM supports 4GB, have you tried re-seating the memory modules.

You might also try running memtest86 (memtest86.com, click on free download and burn the CD yourself). That will at least tell you if the memory itself is bad; if it works okay, then it's probably a BIOS incompatibility.

I read sometimes ago that not al 945GM supports 4GB. Some where capped to 3.

You should try with one RAM module (i.e. 2GB) and see if this fixes the problem. Then try with 4GB but don't forget to swap them. Although it doesn't have a scientific explanation, swapping the RAM (i.e. move the module in Slot 1 to Slot 2 and the RAM n Slot 2 to Slot 1) sometimes fixes memory related issues.

Last try one 2 GB module with your old 512MB or 1GB or whatever RAM you had before.

If none of the above works scan the RAM with MemTest. There is a version of MemTest that works under Windows. Since you're having trouble with 4GB, install 2GB at the time so you can boot into Windows an run MemTest.
