    Hello,

My laptop wont turn on unless I take the battery off. That is, with the battery fully charged, with or without AC power. Only when I take the battery out does it turn on. Anyone have any idea what it could be?

BTW, my laptop is a Dell M1530

    TIA!

I'd say time to try another battery.

    cheers ...

Try the following: boot the notebook with the charged battery plugged in and then take the power plug off. Does the notebook shut down or it continues to work from the battery in spite it "does not see it" and cannot boot with it? I had this kind of behavior once and I cured the battery.

The battery giving me problems is a new one I bought. Even when it is fully charged, my laptop, with or without AC power, wont turn on. It would only turn on without this problematic battery (no battery on). What Ive done is put my other (useless 5 minutes long) battery in, and it works just fine like that. So, I guess it does go down to the battery.

OK, boot from AC power, plug the faulty battery in. Does the battery indicator appear? Does the notebook shut down if you unplug the AC power with the charged faulty battery in?

Isnt it bad for my laptop to put the battery in while its on? Its a 3rd party battery (first and last time; the difference in price was just too tempting).

I personally would not insert the battery whilst the notebook is on AC.

    cheers ...

There's an active discussion stating why it's ok to have the battery in while ac powered. More beneficial than detrimental in fact.

    Long story short;
+The battery is used as a UPS
+Keeps the battery port free of dust and debris

    -???

I did it with my Dell and the third party battery hundreds of times. :)
I don't see reason why it may be harmful either for the notebook or the battery.

I bought a third party battery a while ago, I'm still scared to use it because I'm afraid of my laptop blowing up or something . Dell should make their batteries cheaper, they'd sell more and people wouldn't have to worry about third-party batteries.

In any case, I'm not someone who's good with hardware (far from it), but it sounds like the laptop isn't liking the third-party battery? Perhaps it's detecting that it's a third-party one, and isn't turning on because of that.
